Meet Josh Maunus

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Josh Maunus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Josh, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my work ethic from having a musical obsession and a burning desire to be better than most. Also from fear of failing. With all the time and money i have invested, failure was never an option.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am the owner and head engineer at a well known recording studio in the greater Cleveland area. I started “Top of the World Studio in January 2010. With hard work and dedication for my craft I quickly rose in the ranks as a recording studio and Top engineer. Over my now 16 year full time career I have gotten to work the vocals of many well known industry artists. My mixing credits include, Bone Thugs n Harmony (All 5 members), Bun B (of UGK), Tory Lanez, Snoopdogg, Trae the Truth, Dj Paul (of 36 Mafia), Arsonal the Rebel (world famous battle rapper), Kurupt (of the Dogg Pound), Doe Boy, Dj Unk (Mr Walk it Out) , Ray Jr, Caine, Bankroll Fresh and many others. Im just 1 man on a mission to make good sounding music. I really know the in and outs of this craft and bring 30 plus years of experience. Im obsessed with making my client vision come to Life. I can be booked at a text only number 440-384-8048. Just send your artist name and how many hours are needed. Avaliable times and booking processes will be sent back to you. I have been a well established business man to ensure a smooth and easy relationship. So if you need a new sound for your music.. the hit my line.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The best way to dial in on the process of making music is repetition and practice. You must have patience and have the ability to communicate with your clients, to be able to give them the vision they desire. You must stay focused on the task at hand and not get caught up in the things going on in the studio. You must control the process and get all the pieces that you need for the song. Basically you are the person who takes all the ingredients and creates the unforgettable meal. The game is hard at times but persistence is a must. Dare to be the best. Thats my biggest advice.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

The number one obstacle for me have been my heath. At a young age turned into a type 1 diabetic. After year of that I fell to cancer in 2017 in the prime of my career, after nearly a year long battle that almost killed me, I was able to beat my cancer with a determination to live. As a father of 2 children I knew I could not lose. Battling the cancer with a very high dose has left me with life long neve damage and other life long issuse. In 2019 I suffered a heart attack and was diagnosed with a failing heart valve. Last year in 2024 I underwent open heart surgery to have a metal heart valve installed in my body. I was out of work for 3 months in recovery from the surgery. Currently im in a 16 week heart rehab clinic putting all the peices back together, now that im on the up and up it’s time to continue an already geat career that I was blessed to have.
