Meet Dancette Pratts

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dancette Pratts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dancette, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I get my ethics from a mix of the strong role models and influences in my life. First and foremost, my mother . I watched her work three jobs to take care of me and my brother. Her work ethic, resilience, and integrity shaped me tremendously.

I also draw inspiration from the leaders and teachers who’ve poured into me along the way. They taught me discipline, humility, and the importance of showing up for others. And honestly, I like to say I have a little “mental Bette White” in me a reminder to lead with kindness, humor, and grace no matter what.

So my ethics come from hard work, compassion, and treating people with respect because that’s the foundation I was raised on and what I’ve seen modeled by the best.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am the owner and director of a dance studio where we don’t just train dancers we help build confidence, discipline, and community. Dance has taken me around the world, and now my purpose is to pour that experience back into the next generation. What excites me most is watching dancers grow not only in skill, but in character seeing them walk taller, trust themselves more, and realize what they’re capable of on and off the dance floor.

My brand is rooted in excellence, inclusivity, and empowerment. We create a space where every child feels seen, challenged, and supported. For me, dance isn’t just technique it’s self-expression, life lessons, and family.

Right now, we’re focused on expanding our programs, bringing in more master classes and guest choreographers, and continuing to elevate the training and experiences we offer. We also have upcoming performances and community events I’m really excited about, because connecting with our community is a big part of who we are.

At the end of the day, my work is about passion, growth, and giving young dancers the tools and confidence to shine whether they pursue dance professionally or simply carry those lessons into life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resilience, discipline, and empathy.

Resilience has been essential in dance, in business, and in life. There are always moments where things don’t go as planned, whether it’s a tough season, challenges in leadership, or personal setbacks. Learning how to push through, pivot when needed, and stay grounded in my purpose has made all the difference.

Discipline has shaped everything I do. Dance teaches you early on that consistency beats talent when talent isn’t consistent. Waking up every day and choosing to show up for myself, for my students, for my business is what built the foundation I have now.

Empathy keeps me connected to people. My work is about developing humans, not just dancers. Understanding people’s needs, giving grace, and leading with compassion has helped me build community, not just a business.

For those early in their journey, my advice is:
• Don’t rush the process. Growth takes time embrace the grind and trust the seasons you’re in.
• Build good habits before you need them. Discipline created my opportunities long before anyone saw the results.
• Lead with heart. Success feels empty if you lose yourself or forget the people along the way.

Invest in your character as much as your craft that’s where the real longevity comes from.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

If I knew I only had a decade left, I’d live with even more intention, joy, and connection. I would pour into the people I love, travel more, dance everywhere I go, and create memories that feel like sunshine for myself and for the people around me.

I’d continue teaching and inspiring young dancers, but I’d also carve out more time to simply live to slow down, breathe deeply, and be present in every moment. I’d create, laugh loudly, love fully, and leave a legacy rooted in kindness, impact, faith, and passion.

I believe legacy isn’t just about accomplishments it’s about how you make people feel and the light you leave behind. So I’d spend that decade making sure mine shines in as many hearts as possible.
