Meet Krista Durant

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Krista Durant. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Krista below.

Krista , we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

My confidence and self-esteem were not things I was born with — they were built over time, through experience, adversity, and faith. For a long time, I found myself shrinking in rooms, questioning whether I belonged or if my voice mattered. It wasn’t until I faced one of the hardest seasons of my life — navigating housing instability and advocating for my family’s right to live in safe, healthy conditions — that I realized just how strong and capable I really was.

When I stood up to speak for not only myself but for dozens of other residents living under similar circumstances, something shifted in me. I learned that confidence doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from purpose. I didn’t have all the answers, but I had truth, and I had heart. And that was enough to get people to listen.

Each time I used my voice, I grew stronger in it. Every “no” I heard only made my “yes” to myself louder. Over time, I stopped asking for permission to take up space and started recognizing that I was the space — that my presence, my story, and my work were needed.

My self-esteem grew as I began aligning my life with service — through advocacy, ministry, and teaching financial literacy. Helping others see their worth reminded me of my own. Today, my confidence is rooted in faith and authenticity — not in having it all together, but in knowing that even when life gets hard, I’m still chosen, capable, and called.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Krista Durant, founder of STAPLE The Community, LLC, a Black woman-owned business dedicated to uplifting communities and empowering families. Our mission is simple: provide tools, resources, and education that help individuals thrive—whether through financial literacy programs, community advocacy, or hands-on workshops.

What excites me most about this work is seeing real change happen. From helping students gain confidence in managing their money to guiding residents in advocating for safe, equitable housing, every success story is a reminder that empowerment is contagious.

Right now, STAPLE The Community is growing! We’re launching new workshops and programs designed to bring practical skills and meaningful opportunities directly to the community. Every initiative is intentional, rooted in purpose, and designed to create lasting impact.

At the heart of it all, STAPLE is more than a business—it’s a movement. We believe strong communities start with informed, supported, and empowered individuals, and we’re committed to making that vision a reality every day.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey: resilience, intentionality, and community-focused leadership.

Resilience has allowed me to navigate challenges without losing sight of my goals. In business and advocacy, obstacles are inevitable, but seeing each challenge as an opportunity to grow has been key.

Intentionality ensures that everything I do has purpose—whether it’s creating programs, serving my community, or running my business. Being deliberate about my actions and decisions has helped me maximize impact and build trust with those I serve.

Community-focused leadership means putting people first and building initiatives that empower others. Leading with empathy, listening actively, and creating spaces for voices to be heard has strengthened both my work and my relationships.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice is: embrace challenges as growth opportunities, be intentional in your choices, and focus on serving others. Invest time in learning, seek mentors, and always act with purpose—those qualities will compound over time and open doors you can’t yet imagine.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been time management and strategic focus. Running STAPLE The Community, LLC on my own means wearing many hats—creator, facilitator, advocate, and business owner. I’ve learned to prioritize tasks that have the greatest impact, plan more intentionally, and be disciplined about how I spend my time.

This growth has allowed me to balance multiple initiatives—from community programs to educational workshops—while staying consistent in delivering quality work and maintaining the purpose-driven focus that fuels everything I do. It’s taught me that working solo doesn’t mean doing everything at once; it’s about working smarter, with intention, and trusting the process.
