Meet Abel B. Padilla

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abel B. Padilla. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Abel, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

Sunlight. It might sound a bit clichéd, but every morning I embrace the sunlight. It is some kind of meditative moment for me. It reminds me of the beauty that lies within our world. It can be challenging at times, as there are occasions when circumstances test our optimism. But I make an effort to focus on positivity each day. Some days I succeed, and other days I don’t, but I always strive to be grateful and maintain a positive outlook on life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a filmmaker. It is my biggest passion. Throughout my filmmaking journey, I’ve explored themes that relate to the complexities of our world. I started as a cinematographer, capturing musical live sessions and podcasts. I also worked on short films that taught me a lot about storytelling. While doing that, I fell in love with visual storytelling. Later, I discovered directing, which became my primary role as a filmmaker, allowing me to craft stories I am interested in. Recently, I’ve been working on the post-production of my latest project, “Hopstanz,” which falls under the umbrella of Osohm, a production company that I recently co-founded along with Antonio Saucedo.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would start by studying the masters who paved the way for us. Learning their techniques and the reasons behind them was impactful for me. I watch everything that can nurture my work. I try to be eclectic in my references. Additionally, studying everything that surrounds us was a big part of it. Learning to observe everyday life helps me with writing and storytelling. Ultimately, storytelling reflects our world. It is really nurturing to sit on a bench in a park and observe the surroundings. And third, working on the discipline behind filmmaking has been impactful to me. For me, discipline is essential because, in the past, I neglected it, and as a result, I was not making the progress my work required. Once I improved my discipline, my life changed, and I was able to accomplish things.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

Patience. I have learned to be patient. This doesn’t mean that I care any less about my work; instead, patience has made me a better filmmaker and has also helped me as a person. The key is to continue working hard and persevering, while also taking the time required for certain tasks when necessary. Sometimes, circumstances make us rush, but the key is to find patience amidst the rush. It is not easy, but working for it has helped me.
