We were lucky to catch up with Yamilah Nguyen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Yamilah, thank you so much for joining us today and appreciate you talking about a sensitive topic. It’s unfortunately relevant to so many in the community as layoffs have been on the rise recently, and so we’d appreciate hearing your story and how you overcame being let go?
Last October, I was in survival mode. I was searching for a job that could support me financially while giving me the space to pursue what I’ve always known was my true calling—becoming a full-time YouTuber and content creator. For most of my life, making fast money was easy, but somewhere along the way I lost alignment with myself, with God, and with my purpose. I reached a point where I knew I needed to slow down, rebuild discipline, and allow God to guide me instead of chasing shortcuts.
In the middle of trying to stabilize my life, my car was totaled. Yet even through that, God still opened a door for me: I landed a stay-at-home job—a blessing considering everything that had just fallen apart. But a week later, that job was taken away from me just as quickly. I didn’t have the savings to fall back on. Bills were due. I didn’t have transportation. And I didn’t have a plan. I felt frantic, sick to my stomach, and unsure of what to do next.
But after sitting with the fear, the tears, and the confusion, I finally heard God clearly:
“Start now. Stop waiting. Pursue your purpose today.”
For years, I fantasized about being a full-time creator, but I always placed that dream somewhere in the future—“one day.” What I didn’t understand at the time was that one day was never a date on the calendar. It was a command. And God decided *that day was now*.
One thing a pastor recently said stuck with me: God will give you what you want when you’re ready, not when you want it.
Looking back, I finally understand why it never worked before. I didn’t have the spiritual maturity, the discipline, or the skill sets to handle what I was asking for. Even that short-lived job taught me everything I needed—especially after seeing the inner workings of a company generating four million dollars a month. It showed me what was possible, and it equipped me with skills I could eventually apply to my own business.
When the job disappeared, instead of breaking me, it activated me. I took everything I learned—the structure, the strategy, the discipline, the faith—and applied it directly into my content. And the results have been undeniable.
Even though it’s only mid-November, the momentum I’ve built since stepping into my calling has been extraordinary. I reached over 1 million views on one platform, my content went from averaging 500 views to hitting over 8,000 views in 24 hours on youtube, and sponsorships didn’t just return—they multiplied. I’ve been landing collaborations I once thought were out of my league. Opportunities have been flowing faster than I could have imagined.
These wins are small compared to where I’m going, but they’re powerful reminders that faith without action is dead. When I put God first—truly first—and took aligned action, the blessings followed. What this journey has taught me is simple:
God will provide what you need when you need it, not when you want it. And God will give you what you want when you are finally ready to receive it.
Losing my job wasn’t my downfall—it was my redirection. It pushed me out of the rat race and into the purpose I was always meant to pursue. Today, my success is not based on what I have, but on what God placed inside me. You can lose your car, your job, or your income—but you can never lose your skill set, your faith, or the purpose God created you for.
And that is exactly how I overcame losing my job—and how that loss became the beginning of everything I was meant for

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a content creator, storyteller, and entrepreneur whose work centers around healing, personal growth, faith, and lifestyle. My platform grew from a place of transparency and resilience—sharing my journey, my struggles, and my evolution publicly so others could feel less alone in theirs. What started as simple daily videos has now become a full creative career rooted in authenticity, purpose, and impact.
Professionally, I am focused on building a multi-platform digital brand that includes YouTube, Instagram, and other social channels. I create long-form and short-form content every day, and I’ve reached over 15 million views and counting. My content emphasizes femininity, wellness, vulnerability, and faith. I share not only my lifestyle but my lessons, and that honesty is what has allowed my community to stick.
What excites me most about this work is the freedom and impact it creates. I get to build something that is truly mine—something no one can take away from me—and at the same time, I get to inspire others who are navigating their own challenges.
In everything I do, I keep God at the center. My brand isn’t built on viral trends—it’s built on purpose, integrity, consistency, and the absolute belief that obedience brings blessings. I stepped into this career full-time because I was called into it, and every opportunity and milestone since then has confirmed that I’m exactly where I need to be.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities that have had the greatest impact on my journey are resilience, consistency, and faith.
Resilience carried me through every setback and unexpected change. When things fell apart, resilience kept me grounded and able to move forward instead of giving up. For anyone starting out, understand that challenges are guaranteed. Your strength comes from choosing to rise every time life tests you.
Consistency transformed my growth. The moment I committed to showing up daily—whether I felt inspired or not—my results changed. Consistency builds momentum, discipline, and visibility. My advice for beginners is to treat consistency like a non-negotiable. Even small steps repeated over time will take you further than perfect planning with no action.
Faith was the foundation beneath everything. Faith helped me stay centered when nothing made sense, and trust that the setbacks were actually redirections. It reminded me that timing matters, alignment matters, and purpose unfolds when you’re ready. For those starting early in their journey, lean into your spiritual grounding. Trust that you’re being guided even when you can’t see the full picture.
Resilience kept me steady, consistency moved me forward, and faith aligned me with the path meant for me. Those three qualities shaped the entire foundation of my journey.
My biggest advice for anyone early in their journey is to be intentional about who and what you surround yourself with. Go to church or whatever place spiritually grounds you, because staying connected to God and rooted in something bigger than yourself will keep you aligned when things get confusing or difficult. Being spiritually anchored makes it easier to stay resilient, consistent, and faithful through the ups and downs.
Surround yourself with like-minded people who are pursuing the same kind of growth you want. When you’re around people who are disciplined, creative, motivated, or spiritually aligned, that energy becomes your standard. It’s easier to rise when the people around you are also rising.
And don’t be afraid to let go of people who no longer serve you. Not everyone can come with you to the next level of your life, and that’s okay. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs happen when you release relationships, environments, or habits that are holding you back. Protect your peace, protect your purpose, and don’t apologize for outgrowing what no longer aligns with where you’re going.
Your environment shapes your evolution. If you want to grow, put yourself in spaces and around people that support who you’re becoming.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
A concept that has played an important role in my development is the “Let Them” theory by Mel Robbins. It isn’t a traditional book, but the principle itself has been more impactful for me than any chapter I’ve ever read. The idea is simple: let people do whatever they’re going to do, and don’t take it personally.
The biggest nugget of wisdom from the “Let Them” theory is understanding that people’s actions are a reflection of themselves, not you. If someone doesn’t show up for you, let them. If someone chooses not to support you, let them. If people misunderstand you, talk about you, leave your life, or fail to treat you the way you hoped, let them. It’s not your job to chase, convince, or control anyone.
This mindset helped me stop forcing connections, stop over-explaining myself, and stop trying to hold on to people who weren’t aligned with my growth. It taught me that peace comes from acceptance, not resistance. When you let people be who they are, you also free yourself to be who you’re becoming.
The theory ultimately helped me protect my energy and stay focused on my purpose. It reminded me that the right people will align naturally, and the wrong ones will remove themselves without you having to do anything at all.
