We recently connected with Dusty Pressley and have shared our conversation below.
Dusty, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I love haters!!! If there is one thing I love more than anything in this world, it’s proving people wrong. You dont think I can do something? watch me.
You think it’s stupid to start a business in the middle of a pandemic, watch me thrive anyway.
You think I need to be doing blonde highlight touch ups to be successful? watch me make an empire on vivids and wild colors!
Nothing fuels my fire like proving haters wrong and watch them get upset.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hello My Wicked Beauties! My name is Dusty and I am known as The Wicked Stylist. I run my own salon studio called The Haus of Wicked. I am known for Vivid colors, Lived in Naturals like coppers, deep reds, and beautiful brunettes. Also another speciality that is dear to my wicked little heart, is blowouts! After working for DryBar for 6 years, blowouts have become a favorite service of mine, Because the color could be amazing, but if the style isn’t good, no one is going to remember the color!
I am now at a place where I am working on expanding my brand in to education. I am now becoming an independent educator for all things color and blowouts! So if you are a salon looking for some education to your staff, reach out and let’s chat!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I remember when I was in hair school, I heard this and it stuck with me ever since. “The moment you think you know it all in this industry…. retire. Because there is always room for expansion in the beauty industry” That stuck with me hardcore ever since. I don’t think I will ever know it all but I love learning new ways to do things.
Stemming from that my advice to new people coming into the beauty industry is this; Try everything to start, find what you like/what works for you, then specialize. Don’t limit yourself right off the bat. You will regret it.
Also a quality I think that makes me stand out more now these days is I am still and will always be open to criticism and learning new ways to do things. I dont think I know it all, and I never will. These new stylists think they have it all figured out because of social media. Social media is a tool for us to use, not a the other way around. I do what I do because I love it and it happens to make great content. I dont do whatever the trends tell me to do.
I am always looking for the next big thing in education, and now I am ready to be the next big thing in education!

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The supported me. No matter what. My parents supported me when I decided to go to college to pursue a degree in performing arts with a focus in theatre. They supported me when I decided to drop out of college and go to cosmetology school. They supported me when I decided to pick up and move my business to Dallas! They support me to make my own life decisions. Will they offer me their advice with or without asking, of course! But it’s because they love me and they want me to know that they support me!
