Meet Destiny Longa-Thomas

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Destiny Longa-Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Destiny, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

At Roots and Curls Hair Studio, our journey began with a passionate commitment to embrace and celebrate curly hair in all its beautiful forms. Each member of our team has spent years honing their skills, conquering the complexities of textured hair through specialized training and hands-on experience.

Despite facing skepticism from those who doubted the niche market for curly hair care, we remained undaunted. We turned challenges into opportunities, using feedback to refine our techniques and expand our knowledge.

Our essential quality lies in our persistence; we cultivate resilience by building a supportive community for our clients and each other. We strive to empower every individual that walks through our doors, proving that curly hair is not just a trend but a unique expression of identity.

Through dedication, hard work, and a belief in our mission, we’re not only just a salon – we’re a movement celebrating curls and defying the naysayers.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Thank you for the opportunity to share our story! As the CEO/Founder of Roots and Curls Hair Studio, my passion for curly hair care has been the driving force behind everything we do. My journey began with a deep desire to create a space where individuals with curly hair feel celebrated, understood, and empowered.

Currently, my focus is on expanding or artistic vision by bringing in more talented artists and curly hair stylists who share our dedication to excellence. We’re enhancing our skills, particularly in advanced techniques like the Rezo technique, which has revolutionized the way we approach curly hair.

As a Curly Hair Specialist, I believe in a holistic approach to curl care. This encompasses not just the aesthetics but also the health of each client’s hair. Advancing my career as a CJT, I aim to provide a transformative experience that nourishes clients from the inside out.

We’ve also expanded our service offerings to include exciting packages and memberships that cater to the diverse needs, ensuring that our clients enjoy premium care and value. At Roots and Curls Hair Studio, we’re not only just about curl styling; we’re about fostering confidence and celebrating every curl!

I’m passionate about helping clients embrace their natural beauty and am continually inspired by the unique stories and journeys of each individual who visits us.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that stand out as being pivotal to our success is resilience, continuing education, and having a passion for curls.

The path of entrepreneurship is filled with challenges, and maintaining a resilient mindset has allowed us to overcome obstacles and keep pushing forward. When setbacks arise, it’s essential to view them as opportunities for growth rather than leaving us hopeless.

The beauty industry is constantly evolving. and our willingness to adapt has been vital for growth. Whether it’s embracing new techniques like the Rezo method or experimenting with services, staying open to change helps maintain relevance. My advice for newcomers is to remain curious and willing to learn; it’s essential to evolve alongside industry trends.

Above all, my deep passion for curls has driven our mission This dedication shapes not only our service but also the environment we create for clients. For those starting out, my advice is to truly connect with what you love. This passion will inspire your work and resonate with your clients.

With these qualities, I believe anyone can cultivate a fulfilling journey in the beauty industry. Stay resilient, adaptable, and passion and you’ll find success!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Absolutely, we are definitely looking for folks to partner and collaborate with! Specifically, we’re on the lookout for high-end, high-quality, exclusive product brands that cater to curly hair – whether it’s styling products, salon treatments, hair color, or any innovative solutions that can elevate our clients’ experiences.

Moreover, we’re also eager to partner with a dedicated team to help us build a steady management structure that supports our growth and vision. Collaborations that align with our mission to empower those with curly hair will always be welcomed. If you know anyone or any brands that could be a great fit, we would love to hear about it!
