Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Tia with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic comes from many influences, starting with my parents. My father is a Jamaican immigrant, and as the first-born daughter of a first-generation family, I carried a lot of responsibility and “weight” early on. I watched my father work tirelessly to build his auto repair business within our community. Through him, I learned the value of integrity, perseverance, and fighting for what I deserve. He also taught me that business isn’t just about what you sell, it’s about how you make people feel. Whether it’s affordability, quality, or simply excellent service, you want customers to always come back because of their experience with you.

My mother worked in the legal system, which gave me exposure to the corporate and professional side of life—something my father couldn’t teach me because he never worked in that world. Between the two of them, I grew up with balance and a well-rounded view of success.

Throughout my life, I’ve learned from the people around me. Mentors, friends, and associates have inspired me in different ways. I make it a priority to stay connected to people I can learn from because that’s how you grow and stay sharp. Today, that same drive shows up in how I study market trends, analyze my brand’s performance, and stay intentional about my goals. I believe in constantly evolving and working hard enough to match the size of my dreams.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am the founder of Pilar Nolé, a holistic hair care brand centered on the belief that healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp and confidence. My mission is to merge natural ingredients, cultural wisdom, and modern innovation to create products that not only transform the hair but elevate the entire self-care experience. Each formula is developed with premium botanicals, herbs, and oils that promote growth, balance, and nourishment.

What makes Pilar Nolé truly special is the connection it creates. This brand was built from authenticity and intention. I wanted to give people products that work, but also make them feel something: confidence, joy, and pride in their natural beauty. That genuine connection has resonated deeply with our community, earning Pilar Nolé multiple recognitions, including being voted and awarded Best Beauty Supplies and Best Men’s Grooming Products. Those honors reflect the trust and results our customers experience every day.

We’re continuing to grow in exciting ways. Our next launch is a scalp exfoliate developed in collaboration with our experienced cosmetic chemist, designed to gently detoxify, reduce irritation, and leave the scalp refreshed and deeply moisturized. Alongside new product innovations, I’m focusing on digital expansion and community education — helping people understand that healthy hair care is both a science and a ritual.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say the three qualities (outside of a prayer practice) that have impacted my journey most are research, taking action, and trusting your intuition. Being diligent in research is key, but it’s just as important not to get stuck in the planning phase. You can study all day, but at some point, you have to move. Take action. The worst thing that can happen is you fail……and honestly, that’s still valuable information. That’s how you find out what works and what doesn’t.

The next quality is trusting your gut. Think about how many times you’ve said, “I knew I should’ve…” or “I said that first.” Let’s avoid that altogether by honoring our intuition the first time. Your spirit knows when something is for you.

My advice for anyone early in their journey is to keep a journal. Write things out plainly. Don’t downplay your progress or feel like what you’re doing isn’t enough. It is enough. You are enough. Every small step matters. We’re all growing, learning, and creating together. Strengthening the community is at the heart of Pilar Nolé, and part of that is educating and encouraging others by saying the things people often leave out. The simple truths that are actually the most critical to success.
