Meet Mama Goddess

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mama Goddess a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Mama, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Thank you for this question: I was born and raised in organized religion. More specifically, C.O.G.I.C. (Church Of God In Christ). The epitome of imposter syndrome. Where you are told to deny yourself and be who the religion says you need to be. But I knew there had to be more to life than this. So I took the bold yet brave journey to walk my own path outside of religion.

It was bold and brave I knew that I would be talked about. I knew I would be shunned.
My “friends” stop talking to me. And they no longer wanted to associate themselves with me. Because in that religion, it’s an unspoken truth and learned behavior that if anyone were to do anything outside of the “norms” of what the church allows, you are automatically alienated.

So with that, I struggled for a while trying to find myself as an individual. I had been a sheep for so long, I didn’t know what freedom I really had.

It was during my journey of self discovery, did I allow myself to explore life and get used to new normals. It took some getting used to; because after all, a huge part of my life was controlled by the church.

So I guess the short answer to your question is: I overcame my imposter syndrome through self discovery and I allowed myself the freedom to explore. But hey, it’s in my nature! I’m a Sagittarius Sun. And we need our freedom!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I was born and raised in COGIC. In northeast Florida. But I’ve always had the gift of sight. I would have dreams and visions. However, I didn’t have anyone to help cultivate my gift. So I grew just knowing the ways church. I eventually grew up and married a man who was enlisted in the military (Insert side-eye here). We ended up moving to Hawaii. Oddly enough, I found a COGIC church there. And the people were so nice. The name of the church was Center of Delivrance in Honolulu, HI.
Now, there was this one particular Sunday service where the spirit was high. For those of you who don’t know what that means, let me explain. It is a supernatural experience that happens during a soulful southern-based church service. During this experience, there is music playing, people are singing, shouting, praising, dancing, crying, walking around or passed out in the spirit. Now it doesn’t happen every service, but it happens often enough.
Ok. So imagine all of that is happening. The spirit was high. I’m crying, praying for folks, and walking around; I mean I am in really connected. Then, through my blurred vision (because I have tears in my eyes) I see a young lady walk towards me. She hugs me and speaks something in my ear; I’ll never forget it. She wispers in my ear, and she says to me, she says “God says you’re a catalyst.” Yeah… You read that right. She said that God told her to tell me that I was a catalyst. When I tell you those tears dried up so quick!! I thought she was gonna tell me something profound and deep! But no, she comes up with this!
Now mind you, I was 22, 23 at the time. And my first car was a lemon (a car that barely worked). So in my 22, 23 year old brain, I’m thinking she was talking car parts; a Catalytic Converter. So when she said that I was like “a catalyst, I was like WTH???” And that thang sat with me for a hot minute.
Not knowing that almost 20 years later, I would be the bridge that connects people to their spiritual healing, development, and highest potential. That’s essentially what a catalyst is. A bridge.

When I started my spiritual journey 11 years ago, it started with me leaving the church and finding God for myself. I didn’t have any guidance. It was just me, God and my intuition. As I grew in my spiritual walk, so did my spiritual gifts and calling. I always felt that my calling was to help people. I just didn’t know as to what compacity.
I began with crafting crystal jewelry. And I had never done that a day in my life. I mean afterall, I was a church kid! And I was taught that crystals were the devil; so what did I know about crystals, right? But for some reason, I had an eagerness to learn. And so I did. Thanks to YouTube University, I taught myself how to wrap crystals in copper wire. Once I got good at it, I eventually gained the confidence to start a business selling handcrafted crystal jewelry. But that was only the beginning. I then became a Reiki Practionor and then a professional Tarot Card Reader. After practicing those things for a while, I began going live on TikTok doing donation based readings. I was also sharing my life’s experiences and through that
gained a following. And from there is where the spiritual teaching was born. People were so captivated by my words and kind spirit, that they wanted to take lessons from me regarding spirituality. And thats when the imposter syndrome kicked in! I never would’ve imagine that anyone would want to listen to what I had to say. I’ve been told to be quiet so much, I sight think I had a voice. But from the encouragement of very close friends and supports, I now have a Patreon named

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most important areas of knowledge that are most impactful for me are:
1. be free to be your authentic self.
2. Never stop learning.
3. Change is enviable, so go with the flow.

The advice I would give to someone who is new to spirituality is to show up as your most authentic self. When you can accept you for you, that’s when the God of your belief can elevate your life. So this starts with knowing who you are. Snd the path of self discovery looks different for everyone because we’re all individuals. And we all have something unique to add to the collective. So be your authentic self. And once you do that, you’ll can see how your life will take off.

The next piece of advice is to never stop learning.
As long as you live on this earth, there are always opportunities for growth. So, please don’t ever get to a place where you feel like you know everything. When you get that place, that mindset, you become foolish, unreachable and unteachable. And that place is isolating, lonely, joyless. So never stop learning.

And my last piece of advice is to just be in flow to what spirit wants to do in your life. The more we push back, or fight the flow, we actually make things worst. But when we surround to the flow, we make our lives easier. One way to be in flow is too give up your need of being in control. I know it’s easier said that done. But it is possible. Will it always be comfortable? No. But it’s in the uncomfortable place where true growth happens. So just be in flow!

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

This is going to sound morbid, but I think about stuff like this a lot. And I often joke with my husband and children by saying “alright. You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone.”

So when I think about this question, I think about the impact that I’ve made in people’s lives. And one thing I know for sure is this: what you do in life, is what you will be remembered for in death. The great Mya Angelou said “people may not remember you for what you did. But they will remember how you made them feel.” And that’s so true!
So I would spend my last decade letting people know how much they are truly loved, cared for, valued, and appreciated. I would continue the work of healing and inspiration. I would spend my last decade pushing and encouraging people to live their lives to their fullest potential. Because that’s what is all about, right? Helping each other grow! Each one teach one. And we do this through love, laughter, healing, and passion for growth!
