Meet Karla Mingo

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Karla Mingo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Karla, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

After overcoming the challenge of breast cancer, I uncovered my true purpose. I turned my pain into a catalyst for positivity, which motivated me to create natural, eco-friendly candles and body care products that benefit the home, body, and soul. With each candle crafted and every product made, I poured my heart and resilience into them, ensuring they were not only gentle on the environment but also uplifting for those who used them. My journey taught me the importance of self-care and mindfulness, and I wanted to share this realization with others.

The feedback from those who have used my products has been incredibly heartwarming. People have expressed how the calming scents and natural ingredients have helped them create their own rituals of relaxation and reflection, bringing a touch of serenity to their busy lives.

This endeavor not only helped me find purpose and strength but also inspired others to embark on their own journeys of transformation.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

As my small business thrives, I am dedicated to sustainability, making sure that every aspect of the production process—from sourcing materials to packaging—respects the environment. This commitment goes beyond a business model; it reflects my appreciation for the second chance I’ve received—a chance to live with greater awareness and compassion.

I am thrilled to announce the recent launch of a breast cancer-inspired candle, designed to provide hope and inspiration to those fighting breast cancer. A portion of the sales will be donated to non-profit organizations such as the Celebrating Life Foundation and Angels Surviving Cancer. Each candle is crafted with love and intention, using eco-friendly ingredients and sustainable practices. The gentle, soothing scent is a reminder of resilience and strength, meant to uplift and comfort anyone who lights it. This project is close to my heart, as it embodies the values of care and community support that my business stands for.

By choosing to support these initiatives, my customers are not only purchasing a product but also contributing to a larger cause—one that champions healing and awareness. Together, we can illuminate the path to recovery and empowerment, one candle at a time.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

If you are just starting your journey in building a business, there are several strategies that can enhance and strengthen your business. Effective communication, adaptability, and resilience are skills that helped me sustain and grow my business.

To begin with, cultivating a habit of active listening can significantly enhance communication. This means truly engaging with what others are saying, asking clarifying questions, and providing thoughtful feedback. By doing so, you demonstrate respect and understanding, which can enhance trust and collaboration.

In terms of adaptability, staying informed about industry trends and being open to learning can equip you to make informed decisions swiftly. Regularly attending workshops, networking with other entrepreneurs, and seeking mentorship can offer new perspectives and insights that keep you agile and ready to tackle changes head-on.

To build resilience, focus on developing a positive mindset and practicing self-care. Setting realistic goals and celebrating small victories can maintain motivation and prevent burnout. Surround yourself with a supportive network who can offer encouragement and advice during challenging times. Remember, resilience is about bouncing back stronger, learning from experiences, and maintaining a forward-thinking outlook.

By integrating these strategies into your business approach, you’re not only setting the foundation for personal growth but also creating a thriving environment for your team and your enterprise.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

First, I take a moment to pause and breathe deeply, allowing myself to step back from the immediate stress. This helps me regain clarity and calmness. I then make a list of tasks, prioritizing them based on urgency and importance, which helps me organize my thoughts and actions.

Additionally, I remind myself of the reasons I started the business in the first place, focusing on my passion and goals. This reflection often reignites my motivation and drive. I also find it beneficial to reach out to a mentor or fellow entrepreneur for advice or simply to share what I’m experiencing, as their insights or encouragement can be incredibly uplifting.

Lastly, I set aside time for self-care, whether it’s a walk in nature, reading a book, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of tea. These moments of relaxation recharge my energy and creativity, allowing me to return to my work with renewed focus and enthusiasm.
