Meet Lori Shields

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lori Shields a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Lori, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

My whole life has been spent with people having opinions about my size my ethnicity and my sex.
I learned a long time ago that I had to have my own opinion about myself that I needed to know who I was. I knew that it was very important that I knew myself.. by knowing myself, other people‘s opinion of me were less relevant. Most of my life has been spent with a put up or shut up attitude if the line is drawn in the sand and it’s a competition I would say I’m a fierce competitor.. so people are gonna always have an opinion I don’t have to care

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I have spent my whole life in service to mankind. Music is truly my oxygen.. I adore, animals.
Professionally, I have worked in the field of nursing and in and around law-enforcement, my whole career. But mentioning my career is such a small part of what I’ve been blessed to be involved with there’s layers to this.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Make sure you prioritize things so you can do self care. Enjoy the journey! Remember to have fun. I think I forgot a lot of times.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Giving all honor to God who is the center of my life. My walk with Christ influences everything I do and how I do what I do.
I work hard to be an effective communicator, show empathy and kindness with everyone and animals.
Always remember with everything get an understanding this will guide you.
