Meet Kiera Atkins

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kiera Atkins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kiera, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience comes from my parents and from my life. My mom owned her own company, so I grew up watching a Black woman building something out of nothing with discipline, routine, and grace. My dad taught me early that if you want something, you work for it, no shortcuts, no handouts. That foundation gave me my drive.

But my real fight came from my experiences. Nothing ever came easy for me. I had to work five times harder than the next person, and I went through a lot of failures before I realized they weren’t failures but they were lessons that were shaping me. Every setback taught me who I was becoming.

That’s the same energy that helped me create my debut novel, That Night: The Dynasty Series ( Book One). I wrote this book during one of the toughest and busiest seasons of my life. Between working full time, building my businesses, managing life, and still choosing to show up creatively. The characters in That Night carry the same resilience I had to learn to build by surviving pressure, learning about loyalty, navigating chaos, and growing through pain.

That Night: The Dynasty Series (Book One) isn’t just a story but it’s the result of everything that tried to break me, but didn’t. My resilience built the book, and the book reflects the resilience that built me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder of Starlight Media Group, the umbrella for my two creative branches, Starlight Dynasty Publishing and Starlight Dynasty Records. I create stories through books, music, pictures, and film.

Right now my biggest focus is my debut novel, That Night: The Dynasty Series (Book One) coming this fall. It’s a cinematic Baltimore based story about loyalty, survival, and how one moment can change everything. The book means so much to me because I wrote it during one of the hardest seasons of my life, and every character holds pieces of the resilience, pain, and real life lessons I experienced or saw growing up.

Through Starlight Dynasty Publishing, the home for both my literary publishing and my music publishing, I’m building toward film, audio storytelling, music licensing, and empowering other creatives to own their work. That Night: The Dynasty Series (Book One) will be releasing this fall, and this interview is the perfect moment to share that journey and bring more people into the world I created.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, the three qualities that shaped me most as an author are resilience, discipline, and emotional storytelling. I built my resilience growing up in Baltimore and strengthened it at Towson University and now the University of Miami. Discipline is what helped me finish That Night: The Dynasty Series while juggling life, work, and building my publishing company. Most importantly my emotional storytelling is the core of my writing by taking real life experiences and turning them into characters that people can relate with. My advice: stay disciplined, stay honest in your writing, and let your life experience shape your voice.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

The people who have helped me the most in overcoming challenges and becoming who I am today are my parents. My mom showed me what strength looks like by building her own business from the ground up, and my dad taught me the value of working hard for everything I want. They both gave me the resilience, discipline, and focus I needed not just as a person, but as an author.

I carried those lessons into every part of my journey, through Towson, through the University of Miami, through the hardest seasons of my life, and especially through writing my debut novel That Night: The Dynasty Series (Book One). I wrote this book while balancing real life, real responsibilities, and real pressure, and everything they taught me is what kept me going. The resilience my mom modeled, the work ethic my dad drilled into me, and the emotional strength I had to develop on my own all live inside those pages.

Their influence didn’t just help me finish That Night but it helped me build Starlight Dynasty Publishing, where I now publish both my books and my music. Everything I’m creating today comes from the foundation they gave me: stay focused, stay grounded, and don’t quit on yourself even when life gets hard.

If there’s one message I’d leave people with, it’s this:
Let the people who believe in you pour into you, let your struggles teach you, and let your story become your strength. It’s exactly how I made it to where I am today and exactly how I brought That Night: The Dynasty Series (Book One) to life.
