We were lucky to catch up with Jake Anthony recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jake, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I have always had a drive to work and provide for myself, and one day to provide more for my family. I got my first job when I was a sophomore in high school, working at McDonald’s and dealing with all the challenges that come with that job. While there, not to sound cocky, I was a 17-year-old employee who was promoted to a position right below management. I worked there throughout high school while also participating in JROTC. I know that might sound nerdy, but JROTC helped me develop a strong work ethic and build a foundation of structure and organization. It taught me the importance of a strong team, motivation, drive, and focus. I found a real passion in JROTC, where I served as the commander of the Drill Team and as a Company First Officer.
Of course, I also have to think about the examples I had at home with my parents. As early as I can remember, my father traveled for work, so I only saw him on weekends. My mother, a single mom with two kids, worked hard to balance her job, social life, and family. Seeing how my father provided for us in the way I wanted to one day, and how my mom handled so many responsibilities with strength and grace, really helped shape who I am as a person.
I truly believe that my work ethic and drive come from a combination of these experiences. Seeing development and growth at a young age in both school and work, along with watching my parents lead by example, made me realize that I have it in me to succeed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi everyone, my name is Jake Anthony. I am a 25-year-old music producer and DJ living in Orlando, Florida. I started this project in 2022, performing at local bars. My sound began in house music but has since evolved into techno. I started learning to produce techno in 2023. At first, I did not know much about music production or theory, only what I had picked up over the years in chorus, piano, violin, and drum classes. Like many people my age, I decided to take out student loans to attend Full Sail University, where I enrolled in the Music Production program. As I progressed, I realized I wanted to focus more on the business side of music. That decision did not come from losing interest in creating music. I truly love DJing, producing, and especially performing my own originals, but I recognized that I had a strong support system that could help me grow as an artist and entrepreneur.
Toward the end of 2023, I started a project called Magic Lamp Radio. Its mission is to help artists grow and give local talent a platform to showcase their art. It began as an online platform, using SoundCloud for music and Instagram for community engagement. Since launching, I have had the privilege of working with over 100 artists online and through our live showcases. Around the same time, my friends and I created a project called Nightmoves, which helped us expand in ways we had not expected. We partnered with a venue to host events every Friday and Saturday. While I am not involved in every show, one of us is always there each week. This opportunity opened many doors, allowing us to provide artists with exciting experiences, including performing at an EDC Orlando After Party.
I am proud of how my artist project has grown and evolved through both performing and organizing events. Going from playing at a small bar in Orlando called Savoy to performing in warehouse spaces and nightclubs in cities like Miami, St. Petersburg, and Jacksonville feels surreal. I am humbled and grateful for how far it has come. Watching Magic Lamp Radio grow from a simple online listening platform to a community that hosts consistent live shows has been incredibly rewarding. It feels like everything is falling into place, and I could not be more proud to be part of it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Oh boy, I had to think about this one for a while because I honestly was not sure how to answer it at first. My first thought was to say people or communication skills, but I still feel like those are things I need to work on. Sometimes I do not pay enough attention to how I say things, and that can be a problem, but I am learning and improving every day.
I truly believe the first thing you need to be is a good person. You do not need to be perfect, but you should be honest, hardworking, and a team player. I try to live by those values and be the best version of myself both on and off the stage. None of us is perfect; we all make mistakes, but what matters is whether you choose to learn from them or keep repeating them. This journey can be tough and even lonely at times, so being a good team player helps you stay connected, build real bonds, and grow together with others.
Another skill that has made a big difference for me is time management. I have met a lot of people who say they never have time for things or do not have a set schedule. I believe having a sense of structure and knowing how your day will flow can drastically improve what you can accomplish. Learning to let go of distractions like watching TV or scrolling on your phone makes a huge difference, too. I still catch myself doomscrolling sometimes, but I have learned to recognize it and stop.
Lastly, discipline is one of the most important qualities you can develop. It is not something you can learn from a book; it comes from repetition and trusting yourself to stay committed.
Being a good person, developing strong time management, and practicing discipline with a touch of authenticity can take you a long way, both as an artist and as a person. When you grow personally, your art grows right along with you.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I would have to say Carlos Mendoza. He is a local artist in Orlando who has his own techno label called Shade and has played at major festivals like EDC. He has performed alongside talented techno artists such as Adam Beyer and Charlotte de Witte, and has released music on other respected labels, including D Unity.
Carlos turned his local techno collective, Shade, into a label last year, and since then I have released two singles with them, titled Can’t Stay Constant and Talk About It. Carlos has offered me something more valuable than any other local producer has, which is time in the studio and honest, reliable feedback on my music and productions. I believe he truly understands what quality music should sound like, and he has helped me shape my listening, mixing, and songwriting skills more effectively than school ever could.
He continues to inspire me through everything he has accomplished and is still accomplishing. Being able to work alongside someone as talented and dedicated as Carlos has motivated me in new ways and pushed me to become better.
I am deeply grateful for everything he has done for me, for my team, and for this community. He has helped lay the foundation for the techno scene here in Orlando. I still remember when I first started raving, Carlos hosted a weekly event at a club downtown called Patio. My friends and I used to say we were going to church every Sunday when we went there, because it was such an important and special experience for us.
