Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marissa Hitt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Marissa, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Refining a lasting confidence doesn’t come through my own strength but through a willingness to serve others. It is about your eagerness to serve others being greater than what you fear.
When I walk into a room full of people I’ve never met at gatherings such as a business event or a charity gala, I think, “how can I best serve everyone that I come into contact with?” Whether that means asking thoughtful questions or giving a compliment, being dedicated to finding ways to better serve others naturally builds confidence in some of the most organic, beautiful ways.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I began painting as soon as I could pick up a paintbrush. At the age of five, I began my first art business. Children’s books, nature, & the sheer love of creating inspired my work.
During my freshman year of high school, I began planning the launch of Melane & Co. “Melane” is my mother & I’s shared middle name. Through Melane & Co., I create watercolor pet portraits, floral paintings, wall prints, & cards. Melane & Co. is more than a business to me—it is a lifestyle full of joy.
It’s such a gift to see someone receive a painting of their beloved pet or to find their favorite animal thanks to Melane & Co.’s wall prints. Speaking of wall prints, you can see a selection of my wall prints in-person at Prayer Box Cafe:

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
There are so many qualities, skills, & areas of knowledge—it’s important to keep growing in all of the above. It’s like painting the same painting again & again, allowing you to improve with practice. There’s several areas of knowledge that I have been thinking about a lot lately which include growing a relationship with God, serving others, & enjoying the present. Praying, reading the Bible, & surrounding yourself with people who have the same values are just a few ways to nurture a joyful lifestyle.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
One of the most impactul decisions that my parents made for me is to create a Purposed Parenting Plan before I came into their lives. Essentially, a Purposed Parenting Plan is like a business plan with a familial & biblical outlook. In this plan, my mom & dad identified what qualities they wanted to see in me as an adult, then nurtured those qualities as I was growing up. My mom, Terri Hitt, steps each of the mothers that she mentors through this plan & explains the plan in her book, The Good Mom Trap: Break the LIE That GOOD Parenting
Creates GODLY Kids. This plan is special because my parents looked beyond the day-to-day & focused on raising me with an eternal perspective.
