Meet Jakobi *(dr3nch3d) Kyle (ash3s)

We recently connected with Jakobi *(dr3nch3d) Kyle (ash3s) and have shared our conversation below.

Jakobi *(dr3nch3d), we are so appreciative of you taking the time to open up about the extremely important, albeit personal, topic of mental health. Can you talk to us about your journey and how you were able to overcome the challenges related to mental issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar type 2 when i was 14..
I also discovered a coping plus major outlet rapping and writing..

Ive over came my mental health through my rap persona dr3nch3d ash3s. Here i can be as raw as i want. But also it gives me a sense to be honest an truthful with the listners who do decide to listen to me.

I do square breathing alot . As i have gone thru tremendous amounts of trauma within the last 10 years..

I love to take the listners on. A journey of self discovery with my music i dont stop there i challenge the sociality normality of music….
I dont rap about the “normal” things someone of my profession would rap about ..

I love to keep my music looney an strange!

And raw and authentic.

I cope an over come these challenges of my mental health by dropping various amounts of mixtapes and albums. !

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Im a emerging rapper from spokane washington.. my artist name is Dr3nch3d ash3s i run the INDPENDENT label KILL3RZ
I learnt to compose music again about 2 years ago from a good friend who also is one of my producers. !.

I been in the spokane music scene since 15. But started performing at an early age of 16 .
When people tried to censor my authenticity and rawness . I pushed past the “normal” mainstream idolazation and went underground..

2019 i decided to take my carrer more seriously… one night when i was in a institution someone over heard me rapping and said . “Bro dont come back. Youre gifted . But your gift dont deserve to be heard locked down. ” so my peer came to pick me up after a intensive stay at a mental health facility an i havent turned back…

Ive utilized metaphors to help me cope with some serious truama an issues ive faced in life.
And had to over come.
I encourage people to come at least listen one time. To get a picture of who i am as a person . .
Mental health advocacy is very big in my family due to what i went through as a child into a young adult…
We appericate everyone here at kill3rz who gives us a platform to speak!

We beilive every mental health aspect is important .

“Peace light an harmony ” to survive but also you have to be well in your head!.

And as i always say…

I DONT DO THIS FOR CLOUT AN FAME I DO THIS SO MY FAMILY CAN REMEMEBER MY NAME

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three skills that were impactful to me was the city wide encouragement i got around my neighborhood and eventully the city .

Number 2 is .
Discipline if you aint got Discipline you aint got a stable environment.

3.

Purity .

Authenticity is key .
Honesty is key

And helps people better understand who you are as a person !

#kill3rz.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

The most helpful people growing up .
Were my father.
My step father. And a the very few friends i had.
And my mother and sisters.
My two producers tharealmdc . And bono g.

The fans
workin wit SwizZz

My dad would freestyle with me non stop at his kitchen table. And would push me to think outside the box with rhyemes metaphors. Etc you name it.

I became a very crafted wordsmith from. A young age. Just because we both enjoyed it.

My step dad..

This was a love hate relationship . Becuase we both have mental stresses. But he would always encourage. Me to keep goin an to be the “filthyest” freestyler plus rhyeme sayer out there by givin me words of encouragement..
Word of wisdom . And discipline.
If it wasnt for my step dad an bio dad i wouldn’t be here today.

My mom would give me. A space to go an have a safe space to get my thoughts out . I love you mom forever for this…

My sisters if it wasnt for my sisters or my brothers i probably would get discouraged when people doubted me haha.

My producers.

Bono g.

I met bono g. When i was 17 .
He actaully prod one of my first records titled noones safe…

He um he was shocked. When he recorded that for me…

Anyway .
This dude has given me qualitys given me a safe space to vent my mental health.
Etc. Ever since 17 .. he has not turned me away or tried to change my image…

I appericate you bono.
Aka terry .
You were my life saver as a musician an taught me that no matter what you can get down in any atmosphere…
!
ALSO HE TAUGHT ME TO COMPOSE AGAIN !

Danny aka tha real mdc.

This dude ive been workin with since 2022. .
And he is nothin short but a great person who has taught me that not all products are good products.

This dude has pushed me into a MONSTER ON THE MICROPHONE. AND WE HAVE A ALBUM COMIN OUT IN 2026-2027.

HES PROD FOR SOME MAJOR UNDERGROUND INDUSTRY CATS AN IS A VETERAN WHEN IT COMES TO COMPOSING

HE IS DOPE! AND A GOOD FRIEND!.

The fans well imma sound cliché without yall i wouldn’t be here….

SwizZz ..

This man has shown me what first hand friendship an bussiness in this industry is like. He has took me under his wing essentially and gave me some quality that not everybody is out to get me in this industry.

I been workin wit swizZz for ab 4-5 years now ever since i was 20 . Dude is phenomenal on the microphone bu also is really savage when it comes to the wordplay .

And im glad i can call him a homie an honest friend!.

Last but not least id like to thank my wife an my family today. If it wasnt for these guys i wouldnt be where im at or probably would of never took the leap..
