Meet Desiree Holmes Scherini

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Desiree Holmes Scherini. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Desiree Holmes, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I’ve experienced both ease and Imposter Syndrome! Over the years I have worked in many positions. For some I wasn’t expected to already know the job or the full expectations. These were early on, and simply “jobs” that didn’t require any aura of professionalism, personality or expertise.
With time I gained positions that did require more. On a couple of occasions I had the butterflies in my belly when I felt like I was faking it. Once I was with a friend who was a fellow stay at home mom. We both had studied art, and did art as a hobby at the time. We were together, out having a drink, and someone asked us “What do you do?”. “We’re artists.!” we said, giggling as if we were fooling someone. After-all, we didn’t believe we were “cool” enough to be artists, we were “just moms”.
Within a few years my friend became an artist for a popular greeting card line and I began work as a professional artist and arts instructor, Now we laugh at how silly we felt telling what we thought was too cool to be true.
Since then, Imposter Syndrome has snuck up once or twice. My solution was to KNOW my stuff and be prepared. I would take mental notes on someone who was already a pro at what I wanted to do, and use them as a role model. Using what I could from observing them , I would picture stepping into their body and mind, and at the beginning even “fake it till I made it”! Along with several other mental “tricks” for thought change, and better understanding the human psyche, I have created a “tool kit” to stop Imposter Syndrome before it stops. I’ve found it so helpful in situations that I have put it together in a short workshop that I present to different professional groups!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work in areas that I have truly loved and not really have to choose one over the other! My work as a Hypnotherapist, Artist and Intuitive all allow me to choose my own path and be creative sharing with others, while also finding reward beyond the financial.

For several years I have studied explored and professionally exhibited and taught as an artist. I’ve enjoyed exploring so many of its facets! Over the years I’ve studied Art History , drawing, painting (in several different mediums), and figure and portrait sculpture. I have explored different styles and subject matter, including realistic and abstract. My favorite has been plein air landscape painting in particular, because I become fully engaged with my subject while out in nature. The scent of the air and feel of the atmosphere and the sounds all seem to imbue the painting with life. As an art instructor, I love being able to help my students create what they desire and enjoy the process!

As a Hypnotherapist, Life Coach and Intuitive I have followed a similar approach as with art. I have continually studied and learned a variety of modalities, processes and approaches, so that I can have multiple tools at my disposal. It has helped me feel empowered and resourceful while working with the variety of issues that clients have presented.
When clients are interested in looking for guidance, I really enjoy being able to use intuitive skills and tools, like The Tarot or Pendulum, to help clients who are searching for answers or connection with those passed on. Even more, I enjoy teaching others how to access their own intuition!

As a Transpersonal Hypnotherapist, I often help clients explore their spiritual world. Past Life Regression and Life Between Lives Spiritual Hypnosis are two of the hypnotic processes that can be the most interesting experiences, both for the client and myself, as a passenger on their journey!

Past Life Regression is a fascinating visit to another place, time, and body! It is a unique and powerful experience to review a past life lived that is somehow still stored in the memory at a soul level. Similarly, the LBL hypnosis is a journey into the energetic space between lifetimes, where your all of your loved ones always are available, big answers can be found and your souls contract may be accessed and bring a deeper understanding of your current life.

With my deep interest in the unseen energies, and possibilities, around us, I continue to learn, explore, and share what I learn in work with clients and through teaching others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three qualities that I think have been most impactful in my journey are curiosity, flexibility and determination. Curiosity has led me to learn! The more I learned, the better I was able to do what I desired. Flexibility has helped me find opportunities where they are, rather than believing there is only one road that leads to success. Determination has helped me stay the course and not give up at fear, self doubt, or the negative opinions of others..
My advice to someone early in their journey is to first trust your gut, follow your passion and use these three qualities (and more) to allow you to arrive and thrive doing work that you truly love. When you are pursuing something you love, you will find that these traits will show up naturally! You will be curious to know more. You will be flexible so that there will be a way to have your passion be part of your life. You will find determination to keep at it because your intuition will remind you that your passion is your rightful destiny.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

If I only had a decade to live I would be doing what I am doing right now, helping clients and art students, creating, writing and learning! I know this because I recently faced a diagnosis of incurable cancer. The good news is, however, I was very lucky to have had a treatment that has me cancer free!
Facing death is a sure way to review choices. What I discovered was that I have become even more determined to be a help to others.
Over the last several years I have learned to embrace the philosophy of Stoicism. It’s an acceptance of “what is” and a choice to release any suffering over what we cannot control. To do what we can in the outer world, and then relax and simply manage our own thoughts, emotions and reactions in peace and calm. I was very grateful to have this mindset in place when I was diagnosed last year.
As a meta-physicist, I also fully embrace the power in potentiality, that positive thought can activate positive realities. Best known as “manifesting”. So, I choose positivity, and I’m determined to simply allow myself to relax and enjoy what I truly love doing.
