We were lucky to catch up with Sonya Giddings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonya , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience is drawn directly from my relationship with Jesus Christ. In a world where discouragement is common, my faith is the anchor that compels me to press on and continue creating. I hold onto the truth that I “can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and this conviction allows me to see setbacks—including those caused by challenging human interactions or disrespectful behavior—not as roadblocks, but as temporary tests of strength. This unwavering foundation is the source of all the perseverance in my work.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
🎬 Sonya Giddings Productions: Hope Through Storytelling
My professional focus is Sonya Giddings Productions, where I create art—primarily through film—that tells powerful stories. My journey is rooted in resilience and strength, guided by my faith. I am a storyteller dedicated to sharing messages of hope, inspiration, and guidance through real-life situations. The core vision for all my projects is directly inspired by my faith, which I believe is essential for creating authentic and impactful work.
✨ What’s Exciting and Special About My Work
What makes my work exciting is its clear purpose: every piece is designed to connect with the audience on a deeply emotional and spiritual level. I don’t just aim to entertain; I aim to uplift and offer perspective. I feel incredibly special that I get to be a vessel for these messages, helping people navigate challenges and recognize the strength within themselves.
🎥 Latest News: “Ready for Christmas!”
I’m thrilled to share my latest production, “Ready for Christmas!” This film is a passionate exploration of the true meaning of the holiday—the birth and divine love of Christ. It highlights themes of redemption, forgiveness, and connection.
For this project, I undertook an incredibly hands-on role to ensure the vision was realized, serving as the Cinematographer, Director, Producer, Casting Director, one of the Script Supervisors, and much more.
While bringing this movie to life came with its share of challenges, I regrouped and persevered. This entire experience reinforced my belief that when the message is vital, the resolve to share it is stronger than any obstacle. The cast and crew did an amazing job, and the final product is a well-crafted film that I am extremely proud of.
Excitingly, “Ready for Christmas!” is currently streaming on Fawesome and has also been picked up by Tubi! This wider distribution means that the message of hope and the true meaning of Christmas can reach more people, and for that, I am deeply thankful.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
🔑 Three Pillars of My Journey
Looking back, the three most impactful elements in my journey have been Perseverance, Unwavering Faith, and The Clarity of Ownership and Vision.
1. Perseverance (Personal Quality)
Perseverance has been my personal quality since childhood—I even won a perseverance plaque in elementary school! This quality defines my approach to every project. I am both the public face and the driving force behind the scenes at Sonya Giddings Productions. The film industry is challenging, and I’ve learned that you must be prepared to be knocked down. However, my strength is not giving up. I allow myself to feel the frustration, I may cry, and then I quickly regroup with Christ leading the charge. This allows me to view every challenge not as a permanent failure, but as a necessary hurdle to be overcome.
2. Unwavering Faith (Skill/Mindset)
While perseverance is a quality, the skill of not giving up is fueled by my faith. I have developed a strong mental fortitude rooted in the belief that God would not have given me this creative gift if it were meant to sit dormant or go nowhere. I see this career as my ministry and my calling. This foundational conviction means that no roadblock, personal challenge, or difficult moment can truly derail the mission. My success isn’t just about making a movie; it’s about fulfilling a divine purpose, and that perspective makes quitting impossible.
3. Clarity of Ownership and Vision (Area of Knowledge/Lesson)
This area of knowledge was learned through experience: understanding the critical importance of maintaining Clarity of Ownership and Vision. In the past, when I attempted to step back and allow others too much creative control in a team setting, it led to immense frustration. I felt my hard work and unique vision were being challenged and undermined. My learning was simple: I must be the primary custodian of the vision God gave me. My advice to others is to understand that while collaboration is vital, you must always protect the integrity of your original idea. Know your value and defend your creative space.
🌟 Advice for Emerging Professionals
For those early in their creative journey, my advice centers on developing these three areas:
Cultivate True Perseverance: Don’t just work hard; learn how to recharge spiritually. Your perseverance shouldn’t rely solely on your own energy. Find your source of renewal—mine is Christ—so that when the industry drains you, you can draw from an infinite well of strength.
Turn Belief into Action: If you believe your gift is a calling, treat it as such. Show up for your ministry every day. This means acting professionally, demanding respect, and putting in the work, knowing that you are working toward something far greater than yourself.
Establish Boundaries Immediately: Learn to say “no” and be crystal clear about your ownership and role from day one. Do not let kindness be mistaken for weakness. Your clarity protects your vision, your brand, and your peace of mind.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
🤝 Building a Dedicated Production Team
Yes, I believe that building a strong team is essential for the future growth of my ministry through film. I am open to hiring the right people right now to work under the umbrella of Sonya Giddings Productions. I seek contractors and crew members who share my foundational values and can bring essential skills and commitment to the table.
The Trusted Crew and Support I Envision
I am open to immediately filling key roles with saved, trustworthy individuals who can contribute their professional skills. The people I hire will form a trusted crew that I can rely on and call upon specifically during production periods. I would love to establish a strong, faith-based team structure that includes:
Executive Assistant / Administrative Support: I am open to hiring someone highly organized to help with crucial, ongoing administrative tasks, such as monitoring emails, managing rights and clearances, and protecting against issues like copyright infringement.
Production & Logistics Coordinator: I am open to hiring a professional whose work would primarily occur during pre-production and active filming. This role assists with essential logistics, like scouting locations, securing permits, and managing complex schedules for the specific project.
Ultimately, I want to have a reliable team structure already in place so that when a new production is greenlit, I can just reach out to my trusted crew and say, “Hey, are you ready for the next project?”
Seeking Project-Specific Co-Producers
I am also open to project-based partnerships. I would love to find a co-producer to partner with on bringing a specific film to life. This person would need to be completely trustworthy, saved, and aligned fully with the brand’s vision, helping to secure resources and sharing profits equally on that specific project. This level of partnership requires someone whose commitment and integrity are beyond reproach, unlike the past experiences where my authority was challenged.
