Meet Charlie Bolivare

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Charlie Bolivare. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Charlie below.

Charlie, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My work ethic kicks in as soon as I meet a client and we go over their design needs in their home. It brings me joy to see how proud they feel about making their house a place called home. It brings me joy and pride knowing that I’m changing people’s lives by making them happy with my work.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Reflecting on my career, I believe my three most impactful qualities are:

1. Three Decades of Experience: With over 30 years in the business, I possess a deep well of knowledge and expertise that provides a significant advantage for my clients.

2. Unwavering Patience: I prioritize listening and moving at my clients’ pace, ensuring the process is collaborative and stress-free.

3. Adaptable Integrity: I adapt to my clients’ vision like a chameleon, but my core principle is unwavering honesty. I always act in the client’s best interest, even when it means having a difficult conversation. That is the trust they hire me for.”

“My advice for anyone starting a business is twofold: first, operate on the principle that the client is almost always right. Second, and just as importantly, always be honest with them. Your professional ethics are always on the line.

While experience will teach you more about your business over time, remember that we are always learning—this industry, like any other, is constantly evolving.”

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I make sure to take a moment for myself. I use this time to reflect on the situation and identify the best way to approach the obstacle. The first step is always an honest assessment, which allows me to find the most effective solution. While I believe most things can be fixed, I also understand that some situations are beyond our control. In those cases, it’s about knowing you did the right thing and accepting that. Challenges are inevitable in any business; it’s simply a part of life and growth.

“My advice is to always pause and reflect first. Take the time to understand how a situation happened, and then methodically work to fix it.”
