Meet Rocio Martinez Alvarado

We were lucky to catch up with Rocio Martinez Alvarado recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Rocio, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience was born from the strength of loving parents. We came to Colorado from Mexico when I was a young girl, chasing the promise of a better life. My parents worked endlessly, and I grew up quickly carrying experiences no child should endure like sexual abuse. Yet their love became the ground I stood on, the place I returned to as I learned to heal.
In my twenties, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression cracked me open, revealing childhood wounds I didn’t yet have words for. Yoga, meditation, and integrative health became my lifeline, teaching me that our stories don’t have to limit us—they can liberate us. I learned to heal my body, my mind and my soul.
As an immigrant kid, entrepreneurship was woven into everyday survival. My parents lived their lives as small business owners; and so, did I. I sold ice cones, toys, and anything I could dream up. If I wanted something, I learned to create it. It was only natural that today I am a bigger sized small business owner.
All of this—our migration, my parents’ sacrifice, the healing, the hustling—taught me that no matter where you begin, you can rise. No matter your pain, you can heal. True success, to me, is simple: waking up happy, doing what you love, and becoming who you were meant to be.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi, I’m Rocio — herbalist, healer, and eternal student of nature’s wisdom. I am a mission driven entrepreneur founder of Gula Wellness and Grab n’ Grow a plant forward food business.

My path began not in a classroom, but in the wild fields of Zacatecas, where as a child I wandered “el monte,” gathering garambullos and feeling the earth pulse beneath my feet.

Those early days among nopales and bougainvillea planted a seed — a lifelong devotion to the living medicine of the earth.

Today, as a medicine woman, Ayurveda herbalist, and community facilitator, I believe that health is not only physical — it is emotional, spiritual, and collective.

Gula Wellness was born from this belief: that wellness is a sacred act of remembering who we are — children of the earth, guided by the rhythm of the moon and the whisper of plants.

Our offerings are crafted as modern rituals for the mind body and soul — organic skincare infused with botanicals, Ayurvedic wellness community events that awaken the senses, aromatherapy perfumes that uplift your spirits, and workshops that invite you to reconnect with your divine essence and your fellow sisters.

Each creation is handmade with reverence, blending Ayurvedic alchemy, indigenous medicine, modern science and the feminine spirit of nature. Every experience is an offering — a prayer to the Earth Goddess within you.

Gula Wellness is more than a brand — it’s a movement of remembrance.

Grab n’ Grow is too- a movement of food as medicine.

A call to slow down, breathe, and return to the medicine of the earth and the wisdom of our ancestors.

Today my passion is in helping other female entrepreneurs heal and grow through their passion, inspiring each one to create from the heart. I am in the creative process of starting my third business, a business consulting company for mission driven entrepreneurs helping them start, scale and grow their business. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that have had the most impact on my journey have been humility, perseverance, and boldness.

Humility to start over and to release the fear of judgement from others. The humility to say I need help, and to say I don’t know and I’m willing to learn. To rediscover myself over and over again as I move through life. The humility to say I don’t know everything. And the humility to realize that I am a small spec in the grand cosmos living a human experience with my earth family and living a life of joy with the ones I love is the most important achievement I can create.

Perseverance because if I have learned anything it has been I cannot fail if I do not quit. We hear all the time that it’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. This really is true for me; the journey means the work is in small actions every single day. At times I’ve felt I’ve wanted to quit but then I realize I just needed rest. We are living organisms not machines, rest and action have an equal value on the scale. And finally, boldness, the times in my life where I have grown the most have been where I have boldly acted on my dreams. My dreams are to start a new business, to try something new when things are failing, to put myself in situations that make me uncomfortable. Because that feeling of discomfort comes from the unknown, and yes, it is scary, but I say do it anyway because who you will become on the other end will make your heart sing and you will realize all the amazing things that you are capable of.
It is so freeing to live authentically in what you believe in. Everyone will always tell you what you “should” do, but I ask you “what is your heart speaking?” don’t let fear limit you and bring you down. Failure is just a lesson, no one can take away your experience. Might as well try!

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

My ideal client is someone who is ready for change—someone who feels a pull toward a healthier, more intentional life and is willing to take the first step, even if they’re scared. I work best with people who are open-minded, curious, and willing to explore both the practical and the soulful sides of growth.
Whether it’s through wellness, entrepreneurship, or personal healing, the people I serve are usually heart-centered doers: they care deeply about their families, their communities, and their purpose. They’re not looking for quick fixes; they’re looking for guidance, structure, and support that actually moves them forward.
What makes someone an ideal client for me isn’t perfection—it’s willingness. Willingness to show up honestly, to take small consistent actions, and to trust the process even when the path feels uncertain. If someone is ready to grow, ready to learn, and ready to honor their own potential, then we can create something beautiful together.
