Meet Ben Sarcadi

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ben Sarcadi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with ben below.

Hi Ben, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic is rooted entirely in the example set by my parents. As immigrants to the United States, they carried with them the values and discipline shaped by their experiences. Having grown up in a communist country where scarcity was the norm and the government was often corrupt and unreliable, they relied on one another for everything. As I grew older, they taught me not only the importance of hard work but also the meaning behind it and the appreciation it deserves.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

At Breaking Barriers Developmentally Disabled Services, we are dedicated to empowering adults with developmental disabilities through employment support, social engagement, and opportunities for higher education.

The most inspiring part of our work is witnessing the real-life impact our passionate team has on the individuals we serve. There is nothing more meaningful than hearing a client say, “Thank you for helping me,” after achieving a personal goal they once thought was out of reach. Moments like these remind us why this work matters.

With the right supports in place, everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We’re honored to be part of that journey.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Tenacity, willingness to adapt, and asking for help are the three qualities that have helped me the most over the years.

Tenacity
Achieving a goal is rarely a straight line. The path is usually full of ups, downs, and unexpected challenges. The real difference maker is how you respond when those challenges appear. Do you give up, or do you push through and keep going? I’ll leave that question with you, dear reader.

Willingness to Adapt
For countless reasons, our goals tend to evolve over time. Maybe the market shifts, maybe new opportunities appear, or maybe we simply change as people. Your ability and your speed to adapt to those changes often determines how quickly you’ll reach your next success. Life is fluid. It changes, evolves, grows. Our goals are no different.

Asking for Help
This one is tough for many people. It certainly was for me growing up. But once you realize that asking for help is not a weakness, you save yourself years of unnecessary struggle. Whatever you’re trying to accomplish, chances are someone else has already done it. Do yourself a favor: find that person (or those people) and see if you can learn from them. Not everyone will say yes. And when they say no, I refer you back to the first quality I stated.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

We are always looking to partner with employers throughout the Los Angeles community! A major focus in California right now is job development for adults with developmental disabilities, and we’re proud to share that our team maintains a 95% job-placement success rate.

This success is possible thanks to Los Angeles employers who have invested in our clients by participating in our Paid Internship Program. It’s incredibly rewarding to watch the individuals we support gain meaningful employment and in turn, our clients often become some of the most dedicated and loyal employees an organization can have.

If you’re interested in exploring a partnership or learning more about how our Paid Internship Program can benefit your business, we’d love to connect!
