We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mortez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mortez, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Our band “Mortez” has given us both a reason to zone in and focus on our craft. We make it a point to put writing sessions on the schedule, team meetings, rehearsal etc. Getting a glimpse of how supportive our small fanbase is already shows us that we are doing something right. It seems the more passionate we are the easier the “work” becomes.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We are “Mortez”, a symphonic rock band from LA creating a fantasy world for our coven, the Mortezians. Our message is to manifest your dream life, beyond your wildest imagination. We are doing just that, as the end goal is to tour the world with a full orchestra ! Starting a band from scratch is no easy task, yet we feel that the stars aligned in such a kismet way for the two of us (Brett Daniels & Rachele Royale). We found each other at a time in our lives when we were both struggling to escape a very dark situation. Our love for each other was the driving force that led to an outpour of extremely personal and powerful music. We are currently putting an hour long show together in Reno, NV. Being surrounded by family and friends in a new environment has helped us start the healing process and work as musicians in a much healthier way. We urge you to join the coven @MortezMusic and come with us on this journey to making the dream happen ❤️

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Brett: I believe, the three most important things to know are composition, song structure, and lyricism. Having a strong compositional understanding allows you to bring the most out of each element you include into a song. Knowing Song structures and form is simply fundamental for anyone starting to write. lastly, Knowing good cadences rhyme schemes and storytelling will ultimately be the thing that people latch on to the most.
Rachele: Being a woman in the pop music scene for a very long time I learned that you need a lawyer, people you trust and a solid business plan. I am by no means a business guru but I do think one of the most important skills to have as an artist is to be your own Brand Curator. With Mortez I knew we needed to have a clear vision on who we are, the mission statement and the DNA of our band. In addition, for me personally growing up in a dance studio/dance competition setting gave me a different perspective on song writing and production. My passion for writing anthemic , powerhouse bangers definitely comes from the world of dance. Seeing dancers bring a song to life is still a huge part of how I visualize the production of a song. Last but not least, fashion ! I take wardrobe and styling very seriously. How a band or artist looks on stage should tell the story of who they are. Being a stylist for our band plays a huge role in the drama we bring to every show.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Brett: My Love Rachele.
Rachele: Brett is my angel and has absolutely been the only person who has ever been able to heal my trauma with music.
