Meet Alyssa Romero

We recently connected with Alyssa Romero and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I would say my work ethic comes from my parents. Growing up, my dad was a truck driver and my mom was a nurse — they were always working. Their constant dedication showed my sisters and me the importance of showing up and giving it our all. Watching them work long hours and take on overtime taught us that nothing comes easy, and that consistency is everything.

Before becoming an esthetician, I worked retail while going to school. It didn’t matter how busy things got. I always did what needed to be done. I picked up extra shifts, stayed late, and pushed through, because that’s what I grew up seeing.

Fast forward to today, I’m an esthetician specializing in lash extensions and body waxing. As a solo esthetician, this is a 24/7 job. I’m doing everything from admin and finances to bookings and content. If I’m not in the studio, I’m still working on something for my business. The work never really stops, and honestly, I don’t mind it.

I’m also the type to work long days before a vacation; 12-hour shifts, five days in a row; just to make sure everything’s handled. Even on my “days off,” I’ll sneak in a client or two. That work ethic is something I’ve carried with me my whole life, and it’s all thanks to my parents.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a solo esthetician specializing in lash extensions and body waxing, and I’ve been in the industry for over three years. My journey began when my sister. A licensed cosmetologist, Suggested I go to school to become an esthetician. She noticed I was good with detailed, meticulous work and introduced me to the beauty world.

After finishing school and getting licensed, I started working out of her studio. I promoted myself, practiced on friends and family, and she sent a few of her clients my way. I also connected with other estheticians and cosmetologists in nearby studios, many of whom became some of the best people I know in the industry. Referrals quickly became a big part of how I built my clientele.

After my first year, I moved into my own studio and created my brand. My studio is a space where clients can feel completely comfortable, safe, and seen. A place to relax, be themselves, and leave feeling beautiful and confident. I love hearing my clients’ stories, connecting with them, and helping them feel special. They’ve truly become such a meaningful part of my life.

One of the things I specialize in is lash extensions. It’s a meticulous, time-consuming art that requires patience, steadiness, and attention to detail. The most exciting part of my work is knowing that I can make my clients feel confident and beautiful, even on their hardest days. I always listen closely to their vision for their lashes, and I prioritize their lash health above all else, making adjustments when needed.

Every part of my brand reflects my approach to beauty: detailed, personal, and client-focused. From the care I put into every set of lashes to the warm, welcoming environment of my studio, my goal is to create an experience that leaves people feeling seen, confident, and empowered.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are: patience, consistency, and building real connections.
Patience has been one of the biggest skills in my career. Lashing requires precision, and learning isolation, application, mapping, adhesive control, and symmetry takes time. Patience ensures every lash is placed correctly, giving cleaner results and better client satisfaction.

It also helps with managing expectations. Some clients need a few appointments before achieving their desired fullness, and patience allows me to guide them kindly and professionally.

And beyond technique, patience is essential in growing your business. Building a loyal clientele and finding your unique style doesn’t happen overnight. Sitting for long periods and doing repetitive motions can be overwhelming, so learning to be patient with myself has been just as important.

Consistency is what truly builds a sustainable career. Showing up every day, staying committed to your craft, posting your work, improving your technique, and giving clients the same level of quality every time; that’s what builds trust and a strong reputation.

Consistency is also what keeps clients coming back and referring others. Even when motivation goes up and down, staying consistent is what keeps your business moving forward.

Building real connections My clients and the estheticians around me played a huge role in my growth. Creating a welcoming space, listening to people, and treating clients like humans, not bookings is what kept them coming back and referring others. For anyone starting out, focus on your relationships. People remember how you make them feel, and that’s what builds a long-term, loyal clientele.

My advice for anyone early in their career is be patient with your craft and with yourself. Practice consistently, embrace mistakes as learning opportunities, and don’t rush your progress. Growth and mastery take time. Set small, repeatable habits that you can stick to. Whether it’s practicing a technique, keeping your workspace ready, or posting on social media, consistent effort is what leads to long-term success. Take the time to get to know your clients and peers in the industry. Be genuinely interested in people, show up for them, and create a welcoming environment. Those connections will pay off in ways you can’t predict.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Honestly, my biggest area of growth in the past 12 months has been consistency in focusing on my brand online. Posting regularly isn’t just part of the job. It’s a whole other job in itself. Creating content, engaging with my audience, and sharing my work takes time, energy, and planning, and learning to give it the focus it deserves has been a big growth point for me.

By dedicating myself to this consistently, I’ve been able to dive deeper into the parts of my work I love most. The more intentional I became about both my craft and my online presence, the more I fell in love with my business and that focus has helped me grow creatively and professionally.
