We were lucky to catch up with Kyle Saucedo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kyle, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Sometimes it can be hard to find creativity, or to go through times where you feel uninspired. I think for me the biggest key for keeping your creativity flowing is to try something new, or intimidating that you’ve been putting off. With makeup it’s ready because there’s always a new trend or product to try, so you always have something to pull inspiration from. There are times where I assign my makeup students certain looks that I know they normally wouldn’t select for themselves, in order to push them to try new things, and I try to hold myself to that same standard. Not only to keep my creativity alive but also my passion and love for this craft.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Kyle, I’m a freelance makeup artist as well as the makeup instructor for Boss Beauty Cosmetology School. I started doing makeup when I was around 13 years old in my bathroom living in the middle of nowhere Texas, I was so drawn to watching my mother put her makeup on and the transformation of it all. I later decided I also wanted to indulge and started playing with her makeup. when she realized she scolded me but not for putting makeup on, for not putting it away correctly. The next day we took a drive to Ulta and we picked out some makeup for me to try and from there it became an instant passion of mine, When I graduated high school I had almost put it on the back burner for a while until one night as I was headed home after working my job at the mall I drove past a strip center , and inside was a school that would soon be where I went to get my certification for makeup application . After I graduated in 2022 I kept up with the school and my instructors and had seen they were hiring for makeup instructors, I knew it my time right then, I walked into my interview and the rest is history . I’ve been an instructor now for almost 2 years now .

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think patience has always been one that has propelled me as forward as I’ve gone, not only professionally but personally. Knowing that success is not a perfect upward direction, there are highs and lows. What is meant for you will become clear , but sometimes that means going through hard lessons in order for those things to fully become known to you. I always encourage my students who are either in the industry or trying to get themselves in it to always just stay true to yourself , once you start comparing your talent to someone else you become less likely to want to continue with whatever you’re doing . You are what makes you unique, regardless if you’re doing a soft bridal glam, or a body painting with props and such, it all has a place and required its own talents .

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
I spent so many years as a self taught artist and that definitely was what helped me get to a point where I had enough experience to know the terminology I needed to not be completely lost once I enrolled in makeup school. As a student my instructor Athina (athinamua) and Vanessa (Vanesssa.artistry) helped me refine my skills which later helped me land my own instructor job with Boss Beauty , and after teaching there over a year, I can confidently say I’m at a versatile artist , and business person.
