Meet Scott Howe

We recently connected with Scott Howe and have shared our conversation below.

Scott , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

My ability of being good at trouble shooting and F****** figuring things out has made me resilient. Growing up in the construction world and having solid journeymen around helped instill resilience.
Since nothing is ever 100% perfect, we tend to problem solve and make things happen on the spot.
It’s part of being in a creative field and what makes projects interesting. Everyday I can get out there and create something is a good day.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the owner and lead designer of The Hyste, a creative mediums company specializing in hand-painted murals and signage. Our team has had the privilege of bringing artwork to life in incredible spaces across the nation. One of my core specialties is transforming school campuses—over 300 and counting. From clean, bold branding to fully custom murals, each project carries its own story and unique visual identity. In addition to our education-focused work, large commercial projects have also played a major role in The Hyste’s growth and success.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say 3 major skill qualities that have helped me succeed in this business are to be never afraid of the size of a project, ask questions(there is always someone smarter and more experienced than you) and never stay comfortable-keep advancing and learning.
Know your competition and find out what can set you apart from them.
Nas said it best “it’s never what you do, but how it’s done”.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

The ideal clients are the ones who have a vision and trust me to bring it to life. It’s never about forcing a design on them, but truly listening and building from their ideas. At the end of the day, you want everyone to feel good about the project and proud of what was created together. More often than not, these partnerships turn into repeat clients or enthusiastic referrals.
