We were lucky to catch up with Vanessa Olatunji recently and have shared our conversation below.
Vanessa, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My parents are great role models for me and I learned a lot about work ethic from them. My parents are hard workers, they are educated, and they are go getters. I learned from an early age that you can achieve anything you want if you work hard for it and in order for your hard work to yield fruits you have to have good work ethic.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I run a local luxury picnic business in the DMV area. I set up styled picnics that can be used for birthdays, proposals, family gatherings, dates, corporate events etc. The most exciting part of being a business owner is seeing your idea come to life. I also love being a part of people’s celebrations and being a significant part of their special event.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say vision, being detail oriented and willingness to work with people. The best ways to develop these skills are through practice, research, and reading books.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I would love to collaborate with wedding planners to set up bridal shower/bachelorette picnics. I would love to collaborate with local groups in the DMV like run groups, walking groups and other local businesses.
