We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chelsey Borgstrom a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chelsey, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Us. Community is our driving factor for our brewery and keeping the lights on. If it’s not for making sure everyone has a place, then what’s it all for? Outpost means “meeting place”.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We are 100% ourselves and that’s what we offer to people. We are about stories. Every single thing that is in our space. Every single thing that we pour you. Every single item that we sell you. There’s a story behind it. We’ve lived a lot of places. Traveled to a lot of places, and wanted to bring all of that to you. Sitting down. Eatin’ a snack. Having a beer. With friends that are also family. What else do you need? It’s a direct reflection of ourselves.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Passion
Courage
Legacy
Never forget the fundamentals. Don’t make your hobby into a job! You are doing this because you love it! Celebrate it! Talk about it. Work at it. Always remind yourself why you are here in the first place. In this case, there are so many people involved. Mention a few like the multiple farmers for hops, yeast and grain, and water municipalities. And, have fun! What do you want to be known for? Make people smile! It’s cool to be a part of that smile.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
We are creating. We are living in a world where people are consuming less alcohol. We are creating a space for people to gather. Sure, beer has a way of bringing people together, but so does the sense of community. We are creating a community inside our million walls where everyone knows it’ll be warm. And you’ll see a friend. Or make a friend..that’s the best, right? Otherwise, what’s it all for.
