Meet XINYU ZHANG

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful XINYU ZHANG a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

XINYU, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I built my confidence by constantly pushing myself to explore new things and step outside my comfort zone. Every new experience broadens my perspective and helps me feel more prepared to handle different situations. Trying new things also allows me to discover my limits — and often, I realize I can do much more than I thought. It helps me uncover hidden strengths I might not notice in my daily routine, and at the same time, it teaches me what I’m truly passionate about and what I’m not.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi, this is Xinyu — I’m so happy to share my story here! I’m an interior designer specializing in multi-family projects. I feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I love — creating comfortable, meaningful spaces that reflect people’s stories and lifestyles. What excites me most is seeing how thoughtful design can enhance the way people live and create lasting memories. Recently, I also stepped into a new role as a project manager, which has allowed me to take on more responsibility and bring creative visions to life from concept to completion.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I’d say curiosity, honesty, and the spirit of exploration have been the most impactful qualities in my journey.
Curiosity keeps me learning — it pushes me to ask questions, seek new ideas, and stay open to different perspectives. Honesty helps me stay grounded, both in my design work and in collaboration with clients and teammates. And exploring — whether it’s trying new design approaches or stepping out of my comfort zone — has helped me grow both personally and professionally.
For anyone starting out, I’d say: stay curious, stay true to yourself, and don’t be afraid to take small risks. Every new experience teaches you something valuable.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

The past 12 months have been a period of significant change for me, both personally and professionally. Despite facing several major transitions, I was able to stay grounded and move forward with clarity. This year really strengthened my resilience — I learned how to navigate pressure, adapt quickly, and still stay aligned with my goals. I also became more open-minded and confident in handling new challenges. Looking back, I’m proud of how much stronger and more centered I’ve become.
