We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mikal Davila & Sharima Brathwaite a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mikal Davila & Sharima Brathwaite , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Starting as two halves before coming together, one of us first discovered their purpose through photography, capturing anything they found beautiful, from people and places to small, fleeting details. That love grew into a desire to document meaningful moments for remembrance, including taking portraits of themselves. As the other half got into film, they became increasingly intrigued by it, a passion that strengthened their creative pull even further and expanded the way they saw storytelling. They carried a creative drive they would pursue no matter the circumstances, always drawn toward expression and narrative. As time went on, we connected as people, and when we began blending our visions and photos, we realized together that this was the path we were meant to take, the creative life that had been calling to us both all along.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We’re two creatives with distinct passions that naturally came together. Mikal is inspired by film and the power of visual storytelling, while Sharima has always been drawn to fashion and the art of self-expression. Although our interests originated in different areas, we found common ground through photography. That shared creative spark grew into a business built on cinematic style, fashion-forward creativity, and a genuine love for capturing anything in its best light.
What excites us most about what we do is the opportunity to help people see a different version of themselves, one they may have never noticed or believed existed. Whether it’s a portrait session, an event, or a creative concept shoot, our work blends storytelling with style to create images that feel meaningful, intentional, and visually compelling.
Our brand is all about connection and transformation. We don’t just take photos; we create an experience. We aim to make clients feel confident, valued, and seen, because the right image can shift how someone views themselves and how they show up in the world.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the most impactful qualities in our journey have been creative vision, collaboration, and humility. Being willing to explore different creative areas helped shape the kind of business we are becoming and allowed us to grow in meaningful ways. Collaboration and connecting with other creatives pushed us to think differently, expand our skills, and build meaningful relationships that enrich the work. And humility, staying grounded and understanding that we are always learning, has kept us open to growth, feedback, and new opportunities. For anyone early in their journey, I’d say don’t be afraid to experiment, surround yourself with people who inspire you, and stay teachable. That combination will take you further than you think.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, we’re absolutely open to partnering and collaborating. Collaboration is one of the most exciting parts of what we do. Whether it’s film or photography, we love bringing other creators’ ideas to life and helping them shape their vision. Creating alongside other artists pushes us creatively and allows us to experiment, explore, and grow.
We’re open to working with all types of creatives—models, filmmakers, photographers, poets, dancers, stylists, designers, and anyone with a unique idea they want to express visually. If you’re passionate, imaginative, and excited about creating something meaningful, we’d love to connect.
Readers who want to collaborate can reach out to us through our social media or website—we’re always just a message away and excited to build something beautiful together.
