We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Corissa Saint Laurent a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Corissa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose on the side of a mountain on the Coromandel Peninsula in the north island of New Zealand. After my tumultuous teens, I had left the United States for a year to study abroad and clear my head. I didn’t know what awaited me but I was desperate to make a change in my life. Before applying to study abroad, I’d lost my direction. I’d given up my pre-med track at the University of California, Irvine, my grades were plummeting, and I was partying way too much and way too hard. More concerning were the suicidal thoughts and next to suicidal risk-taking behavior that were becoming more prevalent in my life. I felt unloved, uninspired and lost in a malaise I couldn’t name.
A hidden force drove me to the study abroad office on my campus and eventually gave me the inspiration to bring up my grades and do everything else I needed to meet the requirements for the University of California Education Abroad Program. I remember sitting in my interview, feeling the mix of nerves and excitement, as I was questioned about why I wanted to study abroad, what I hoped to gain, how could I best represent the UC system, and on and on. I couldn’t tell the board why I really wanted to go – I needed an escape hatch before I did something really stupid.
With each stage of the process from applying to the program, getting accepted, touching down in New Zealand, and going on a solo hike on the Coromandel Peninsula, I felt that unseen presence guiding me…coaxing me…and providing a reassurance to trust the process. When I found myself on a mountain vista, after trudging for hours through dense kauri forest, I felt a sense of relief and presence I hadn’t felt in years.
I took off my pack, took a slug of water, and pulled my journal out to capture some of my thoughts. When I opened it, a small baseball sized card fell to the ground. It was the memorial service card for my grandmother that I carried with me. I bent down to pick it up, her wry smile in black and white providing a little familiarity on my foreign adventure, and when I stood up the entire world exploded in light.
I felt lifted from the ground. Held in the loving presence of creation. Basking in a bliss I remembered somehow, but hadn’t experienced in a very long time. In that light, I knew my purpose. I knew my worth. I knew who I really was. When the world came back into focus and I landed back on earth, I fell to my knees in tears of gratitude, love and utter awe of what I’d just experienced and continued my hike up to the Pinnacles, the top of the mountain I was on, and the start of my new adventure.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I inspire people and companies to think, feel and act in their highest good. To love themselves and what they do. To integrate into wholeness. To lead with their soul and expand in consciousness. To awaken within and reconnect to their deepest wisdom in order to experience a better everything. Better relationships. Better work. A better world.
I serve from my heart through podcasts, projects, events and collaborations that light you up so you can light up the world. I’m the founder of The Everyday Mystic, a portal to inner exploration, expansion and celebration of your divine nature, a business consultant for wellbeing companies, a mentor for founders and leaders ready to go within, an international speaker, podcaster, mother, wife and fellow traveler on this amazing trip called life.
I recently launched a mentorship program called, Mission Critical, a 7-week soul activation for founders and leaders who want to discover who they really are and the higher purpose behind it all. Through the work, participants go from stuck, burnt out, dissatisfied or unfulfilled to having all the answers they seek and the courage to take the steps to freedom. They learn how to work from the seat of their soul with their higher self resources and an otherworldly ease and energy. Ultimately, the program is designed to turn each participant into their own mentor, teacher and guide with the whole of source consciousness by their side.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Resiliency Is the Reward: The journey of life isn’t linear. Even though you age that way, the things you learn are more spiral in nature. You may come back again and again to a lesson you thought you were done with, but each time there is a deepening of knowledge. This is how true wisdom is earned. Life is not a set of one-and-done experiences. It will continue to serve you exactly what you need to face and transmute, until you do. Keep going. There are no prizes for getting through a level first or faster. Resiliency is the reward. Knowing that you have what it takes to weather the storm and find your gifts in the tumult, is the game.
Laughter Is Medicine: Life isn’t easy. Even for people who have all the money in the world, which is what most people think is the goal in life. I’ve spoken to many people on my podcast and in life who have reached the height of success just to discover they weren’t any happier. Life was still hard but in different ways. When the pursuits in life are only of the material and external to your own true joy, they don’t end up amounting to much. That’s why so much of the real journey, the one within, is about discovering what truly lights you up. What feels most meaningful and fulfills a higher purpose beyond our earthly pleasures. It’s through this exploration we find what’s truly valuable and we learn how to laugh at life…at everything we once took so seriously. We laugh and fill ourselves with joyful exuberance over being alive and getting to live into every experience to its fullest.
Love Is the Answer: I felt very unloved as a child. I was given up for adoption at age 3 and although I had a loving family and friends growing up, I didn’t have much love for myself. As many people do, I tried to fill up that void with romantic love with a variety of lost souls who had the same void. Like attracts like. I also tried numbing myself to the need for this love through alcohol, drugs, and whatever other distractions I could use. It was a losing battle. It wasn’t until I learned how to love myself that things began to turn around. My well slowly started to fill. From loving thoughts and actions, to eventually feeling a deep sense of love within, I was led back to the frequency of love. This state is what it is. It doesn’t need to be fulfilled by anyone or anything else. It needs to be accepted and welcomed back into your life because it’s your true nature and the answer to everything.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
What I learned, on the side of the mountain on that fateful day back in 1994, changed the paths I walked but not where I was going. We’re all going home…back to our true nature as divine beings…and it’s part of my mission to help walk people home. Through the talks I do on podcasts and at events, and the mentorship I provide to those looking for guidance, I live into my purpose.
I would love to connect with event and retreat producers, wellbeing advocates and founders, and podcast hosts with aligned missions to serve from the heart and help in the awakening of humanity.
