We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominique Kohlenberger. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominique below.
Dominique, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I love this question because most people think of self-care as massages, bubble baths, getting your nails done, or a fun girls’ night out . Those are lovely forms of self-care. But for me, true self-care began when I started my health journey. It wasn’t glamorous but it was intentional.
My self-care looks like prioritizing my goals, setting healthy boundaries, and taking care of myself in the smallest, most consistent ways. For example: never leaving the house without my water bottle, nourishing my body with foods that give me steady energy, protecting my sleep like it’s an appointment with myself, and honoring my exercise routine . Nothing gets in the way of those commitments anymore. I had to shift my mindset to understand that this level of discipline is actually the deepest form of self-care.
And the impact has been huge.
It has made me more effective in every area of my life , personally, professionally, and as a coach. When I keep my baseline needs met, I make clearer decisions, I communicate better, I have more emotional bandwidth, and I show up with the kind of energy and presence that my clients, family, friends and community deserve. Those small daily acts create stamina, clarity, confidence, and vitality, especially as a middle-aged woman navigating a world that demands so much from us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’ve always been driven by a desire to serve people. This is exactly what led me to become a physical therapist. But over time, I realized that so many of my patients were struggling not because of a single injury, but because of years of habits, stress, and lifestyle patterns that had slowly shaped their health. I knew I could do more than treat the symptoms. I wanted to help people change the trajectory of their entire life.
That realization inspired me to become a certified health and life coach, and ultimately to create DK Wellness Blueprint which is my signature roadmap for improving metabolic health through nutrition, stress regulation, gut health, healthy movement, mindset work, and restorative sleep. It’s a wholistic approach designed to help people build a lifestyle that supports vitality, longevity, and confidence , not through quick fixes, but through sustainable, life-changing habits.
What excites me most about this work is watching clients finally recognize their blind spots that have kept them stuck. When they learn to shift their mindset, regulate their nervous system, and rewire the brain pathways that drive their choices, they experience breakthroughs they never thought possible. And the truth is, once you learn how to do that, you can achieve anything you want in your health, your relationships, career, or overall quality of life.
That’s the heart of my brand: empowerment through awareness, education, and deep personal transformation.
I’m currently expanding my offerings with new workshops, community-based programs, and personalized coaching experiences that help people take back control of their health and live with more energy, clarity, and joy. My mission is simple: to help people feel at home in their own body again and to give them the blueprint to thrive.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first quality that shaped my journey is curiosity. It’s truly the engine behind everything I’ve learned and created. Curiosity kept me asking questions, exploring new ideas, and diving deeper into health, neuroscience, behavior change, and human potential. When you stay curious, you stay open and that openness leads to growth.
The second is patience. This one is definitely a daily practice for me. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight, and neither does building a business or reinventing your life. Patience helps you trust the process, take one step at a time, and not get discouraged when the results aren’t immediate.
And third is consistency. You don’t need to solve everything at once. In fact, you shouldn’t. The real magic is in the compound effect of small, daily actions. Those tiny choices add up and create massive change over time.
My advice for anyone early in their journey:
Stay wildly curious. Let yourself be a student of life. Practice patience . Patience is a skill, not a personality trait. And focus on showing up consistently, even in small ways. If you embrace those three qualities, you’ll look back one day and be amazed at how far you’ve come.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
There isn’t just one person who helped me become who I am today. It’s been a collection of people who each played a meaningful role at exactly the right time. Once you become clear on what you want, it becomes essential to surround yourself with people who are smarter, wiser, or more experienced than you. That requires humility, but it also accelerates growth in ways you can’t do alone.
I often refer to these individuals as my “mentors,” even if they didn’t realize they were mentoring me in the moment. My parents taught me discipline and work ethic. Others taught me business acumen, emotional intelligence, and equanimity. Each one shaped a different part of me.
And then there is my husband. He is by far my biggest fan, my sounding board, and my steady anchor in life. He has supported me through every season, every reinvention, and every “crazy idea,” offering both practical wisdom and unwavering love. His belief in me has been one of the greatest gifts in my journey, and I wouldn’t be who I am today without him.
