We were lucky to catch up with Angela Jean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angela, so happy to have you with us today. You are such a creative person, but have you ever had any sort of creativity block along the way? If so, can you talk to us about how you overcame or beat it?
The way I overcome writers block, or creativity block, is I put something on the page. It doesn’t matter what. It can be a drawing or a word. The hardest thing for me to look at when trying to be creative is a blank page or a white canvas. The way I solve that is by putting anything down!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a songwriter and artist.
I have music out now on most streaming platforms and some radio stations. That music was produced and co-written by Chris Tench.
I also have a song I co-wrote with Steve Stern. He performed the song. It is called the Lady in Black. It has gotten some radio play and that’s exciting.
Also, make sure you add Walk Through Bethlehem to your Holiday Playlist. Jesse Dunne invited me to be a part of that single and it’s a great Christmas song.
Currently I am working on some music with Jared Tuitel. We perform out a lot as a duo.
In addition, I am a visual artist and that’s a great way to unwind from the stress of the city.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The biggest quality or thing I learned is to forget everything I learned. I believe not being held in by any boundaries or boxes when songwriting has been the best thing. From that I have written across genres and styles.
The second thing I learned is have tough skin. There will be people that don’t agree with your style or vision. I have had people try to put me down publically. I didn’t care and kept going. When you care they win. When you keep going you win.
The third thing I learned is write honestly. Sometimes I think, I can’t say what really happened, they might hear it. When I let go of that I write well.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
Often my number one obstacle is my self and my own self doubts. I just try to believe I was made for a reason and that even I can make a difference in someone’s life and maybe, someday, I will write that song that helps someone.
