Meet Ballpark!

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ballpark! a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ballpark!, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

We’ve been around in the scene just long enough to see a lot of bands around us crumble, and truly, we think the thing that really makes us different is the willingness to work toward something together. It’s quite difficult to have honest conversations about how we think a song should go, or how it should sound, etc. While it takes time to sort out what we collectively want to accomplish and the embellishments that we can leave behind, it ultimately makes our songs as unique as they are. Having that resiliency to be honest and open with ourselves and each other is something special!

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

We’re a progressive pop band located in Fort Collins, CO! To us, progressive means to move towards something new. The progressive landscape has evolved in a very heavy direction in recent years, but why does it have to be that way? Ballpark! blends a combination of pop, indie, emo, and prog into our music. We play what we like to play, in short. We’re currently writing a new album that we believe is our most defined sound yet. But if you’re just itching to give us a listen, we released our EP “Songs From The Blue Shed” earlier this year.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Play the music that you’d dance to
Lots of musicians have a very specific idea of what “good” is to them, but oftentimes that means missing the bigger picture. Thinking about the song as a whole is what opens up your mindset.
2. You’re not putting on a set, you’re putting on a SHOW
It’s hard to get out of your head sometimes, but you have to picture yourself onstage. Would an audience get excited about some people standing in a line playing songs for 45 minutes? Probably not. Move around, have fun with it, and enjoy the ride!
3. If you’re a musician, your favorite song is not your best song.
You might be really, really attached to that guitar riff, or that oddball song on the album in a weird tuning. But we promise you that it’s usually not going to be your fan favorites. That’s okay! We just wanna give you that heads up 🙂

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

In the last year, the biggest things we’ve improved upon are our branding and our defined sound. It took us a while and a little bit of help and feedback, but we made time to reflect upon the things that made us, us. Feedback is our friend, and we like to engage as much as we can with our listeners! We realized how important nostalgia and positivity have become to people in our generation, and we visually try to represent that kind of lighthearted feeling on stage, in our merch, and in our music!
