We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Kathryn Liguori a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda Kathryn, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
For me, self care goes beyond eating healthy and exercising. I think these two things are extremely important, don’t get me wrong, but prioritizing self care from a mental health perspective has been a game changer for me. I am a huge fan of therapy- which has had such a profound impact on me over the years. I used to be a people pleaser and I really struggled with saying “no,” especially when it would disappoint someone I cared about. I had to do a lot of self work to learn that setting boundaries was healthy and, actually, a positive thing. Once I started making choices for myself, setting appropriate boundaries, and saying “no” to things that didn’t feel right, the path toward following my dreams became a lot more clear. I am so incredibly grateful for all of the opportunities that have come my way. I am always working on becoming the best version of myself, and I think that is what allows me to grow in my career as well!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I have been acting for about 2 ½ years, and I am loving every minute I get to spend on set. I just wrapped a feature film where I did all of my own stunts! This was such a blast for me because I have always been active- I was a gymnast growing up, and I currently train MMA.
We also shot some of this film in a green screen studio, so I am really excited to see how it comes out.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three things that have impacted my journey have been self confidence, resilience, and finding joy in the process. I had to learn to love myself before I could put myself out there. In this industry, it’s easy to doubt yourself or compare yourself to others. You have to believe in yourself and love yourself enough to get through moments of self doubt. And that isn’t always easy. As an actor, you are going to hear “no” a lot more than you’re going to hear “yes,” and you have to be resilient enough to push through rejection. It’s all part of the process. I also find so much joy in acting, even in auditioning and self taping. I love being able to play a variety of characters and I genuinely have so much fun with each one.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Honestly, I have gone through a lot of personal changes in the last year. About a year ago I started the process of ending a relationship that I knew wasn’t right for me. It can be really difficult getting out of situations that aren’t right for us, especially when that decision hurts the other person. But I had to choose myself and I am so glad I did. I am now in a much happier and healthier relationship with the most wonderful person I know. My partner is so loving and supportive and we share the same values and life goals. I couldn’t be happier.
