We recently connected with Simone Tringali and have shared our conversation below.
Simone, so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?
Where does it come from? I think it was always a part of me. I don’t function well in chaos, or messiness. And ever since I can remember, discipline has helped me stay focus and move forward. It all starts with something I’m interested in. When I’m interested in something, I fully commit. That covers any aspect of my life, from my work as a filmmaker, to what to eat for lunch. Ever since I moved to LA, I’ve been told multiple times that as a Capricorn self discipline is a big part of my star sign identity, but I’m still trying to figure out if I believe in that or not.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I was born In Sicily, Italy and when I was about 5 years old my family and I moved to Turin, up in the north. I grew up with my siblings and I remember putting them to work and play “making movies”. I used to use my brother and sister as actors and we would make short films. As time went by I was becoming more aware of the passion I had for the art and that people were doing it as a job. In Italy we are lucky enough to pick a subject of study already in high school, so I started learning about filmmaking already in school, and then moved to Dublin, Ireland where I went to film college and graduated in Directing for film and television. Throughout the years I made several short films, which are all available to watch on my website www.simonetringali.com – and I had the opportunity to work on a few projects in the US, one of which I’m so happy to have been a part of. it’s a feature film called Busted, a comedy written and directed by the great Maria Bissell, starring Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), Ty Simpkins (The Whale), Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul), Mel Rodriguez (The Last Man on Earth) and Maria Zhang (Avatar: The Last Airbender) which I co-produced along with really amazing people and it’s currently in post production.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1- Practice self-discipline.
Personally, self discipline is the fuel to get where I want to be. Which doesn’t mean that you have to gain a military training, it means to do something for your dreams, every single day. No matter how big the step is, as long as you take it, you won’t in the same spot as the before.
2- Take risks.
I have noticed that by taking risks, or stepping out of what’s comfortable, I am forced to grow, overcome challenges and evolve. You can be ambitious, but if you dream a mountain and you keep climbing hills, you’re never gonna reach the mountain top. We can all dream, and we can all talk about our dreams, but not many put the work to get where they want to be. And for me it’s very important to not ever feel too comfortable where I am.
3- Believe that you already are, who you want to be.
Believe who you say you want to be, because you are already putting the work. I believe in the power of visualization and if you set your mind towards something, you can achieve it.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I owe a lot to my partner–navigating this world alone is absolutely possible, but having the right person by your side makes this process a beautiful journey of discovery, learning from each other and especially self-support. From emotional and practical support. I feel very lucky to have a valuable person by my side for most of my teenage and young adulthood life. Along with my family, my partner always, supported every step of my life, also helping me achieve goals and learning skills I had to learn to get where I am.
