Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Patsy Lupton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Patsy, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
Whew, now that’s a question I’ve been avoiding for a lifetime. At the tender age of thirty-one, I feel like I’ve lived so many lives already and the only way I have managed to make it through each trial and tribulation is due to my resilience. I wholeheartedly believe I get my resilience from my mother! She honestly is one of the most resilient women I know. From being a single mother and facing adversity for being a black woman in a male dominated profession, she’s always pushed through and never gave up. Life has not always been the easiest for us, but I would have never known that growing up. While she was facing hardships in tandem with curating an unforgettable childhood, she never wavered. To this day I look at her and ask, “How did you do it?”. She just replies, “I kept going, Babygirl”. Those words are ones I carry with me every day, I mean that’s easy because I have them tatted in her handwriting. Whenever things seem like they are getting hard, I just simply remember those words, and they fuel me to keep going no matter what!

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
When my passion for beauty collided with my genuine love for people, I knew I’d found my purpose. I started my esthetics journey back in 2014 after graduating from Ogle Hair, Skin, and Nails, and I’ve been perfecting my craft ever since. In 2018, while earning my Master Educator license at Gaston College, I discovered a new obsession—waxing—and that’s when everything truly clicked for me.
Since then, I’ve had the joy of serving clients from all walks of life, each one reminding me why I love what I do. Their stories, confidence, and vulnerability inspired me to take a leap of faith and open Publicity Wax Studio, a space rooted in inclusivity, body positivity, and a whole lot of community. At Publicity, every client gets a tailor-made service that leaves them walking out feeling celebrated, empowered, and like the celebrity they already are.
Outside the studio, I’m a proud wife and mom of two—roles that keep me grounded, motivated, and full of heart. Balancing mom life and business life has shaped me into the woman I am today: determined, compassionate, and always ready with a little extra warmth and humor.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities I believe have been the most impactful in my journey are discipline, resilience, and being client centered. Starting out as an entrepreneur after a world-wide pandemic took a healthy dose of discipline and resilience. From working an endless and tiring schedule to ensure I had enough capital to go out on my own and open my wax studio against all odds was humbling while also being a mother. I had a strict schedule juggling three jobs while trying to build Publicity in the early days. Did everything go the way I planned? Absolutely not but I was resilient enough to keep going to make sure one day it would grow into everything I dreamed of and more. I encourage anyone that wants to go into business for themselves to always stick with it until you get to your breakthrough but know you are going to have to get your hands dirty and work hard. Being client centered has helped set my business apart from others that might render the same services I do. Clients love that Publicity is not just a business, it is a place where you can come and share your highest highs and lowest lows in life. I pride myself in being a soft spot of my clients to land no matter what they have going on in life. I look at my clients as extensions of my family! I get excited to see them and hear about what they have going on in life. Often in business clients are treated like dollar signs and not humans first. At Publicity we pride ourselves in clients first, profit last!

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my mother did for me was teaching me to have the confidence in my ability to do any and everything. She raised me to be confident and have a strong work ethic. Whether it was in the classroom during grade school to now as an entrepreneur. Her teachings have given me the grit and fortitude to do whatever I put my mind to. Something that may seem so simple as carried me through a fruitful career as a licensed esthetician, esthetic instructor, business owner, wife, and mother!
