We were lucky to catch up with Sophie Sargent recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
The word “no” has never shut me down — it’s ignited me. Since I was young, that pushback has fueled my curiosity and my refusal to quit. At 12, I earned my black belt in karate after seven years of discipline, sweat, and grit. Every test felt like its own battle: breaking boards with shaking hands, running miles through cramps, memorizing combinations until they lived in my bones. Those moments weren’t just challenges — they were the foundation of my resilience.
Karate taught me how to fight, not just in the dojo, but in life. It prepared me for the world of entertainment, where perseverance is everything. Now, I don’t fold under pressure. I don’t stop at obstacles. I lean in, work harder, and trust that every “no” is redirecting me closer to exactly where I’m meant to be. Getting where I’m meant to be is more important than focusing on the “nos”.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Networking is everything. Putting yourself in new rooms unlocks opportunities you never knew existed. Sure, it can feel intimidating, but if you truly want something, you’ll do the research, make the effort, and boldly reach out — even offering your skills in exchange for a chance to connect. Once those connections are made, the real work begins: commitment. Success demands sacrifices — missing the party, putting in extra hours — all for the long-term payoff. And above all, resiliency is key. Rejection is inevitable, but redirecting your path and keeping momentum is part of the journey. My advice? Don’t wait. Be intentional, take that first step, and immerse yourself in the rooms where opportunity lives. What will make you happier, doing what you love, or worrying about what others will think or how you will get there?

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Overthinking used to be my anchor. My mind was constantly spinning, making sure I said “yes” to the right opportunities. I pushed myself into overtime so often that I sometimes lost sight of my mission. I loved the thrill of the media world, modeling, and filming for TV — but burnout is real. Being on camera constantly, working 16-hour days, isn’t sustainable.
Over the past year, I’ve learned the power of saying no. Getting clear on your journey is everything. Everyone wants your time, and it’s the one resource you can never get back. That makes it the most valuable thing in life — so it’s worth protecting and investing wisely. Saying no isn’t about missing out; it’s about making your yes count. Getting pickier isn’t rude, it’s understanding your worth.
