We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Teresa Moody a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Teresa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
When I’m the only one in the room who looks like me, I remind myself that I’m not there to blend in,
I’m there to bring something different.
I walk in with confidence, authenticity, and excellence.
I’ve learned that being the only one isn’t a disadvantage; it’s an opportunity to represent my culture, my purpose, and my God with boldness.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Teresa Ware Moody-
an Evangelist, Gospel Artist, Songwriter, Author, and Self-Publisher focused on helping people find healing, hope, and purpose.
Through my books, music, and ministry, I pour into anyone who needs encouragement, clarity, or direction.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Being true to who I am,
as a woman, an evangelist, a gospel artist, songwriter, author, and self-publisher, has been one of my greatest strengths.
Understanding people, reading the room, and responding with compassion has helped me connect with audiences, readers, and listeners from all walks of life.
Advice:
Build emotional intelligence by listening more than you speak.
Learn your triggers. Understand your strengths. Be honest about your areas of growth.
When you’re authentic, people don’t just hear you, they trust you.
Everything I’ve achieved came from three things: trusting God, knowing myself, and staying teachable.
If you can master those, you can build anything God puts in your heart.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
As a gospel artist, songwriter, author, and self-publisher, my biggest growth this year came from stepping outside my creative comfort zone.
I pushed myself to experiment more, share more of my story, and refine my craft.
I found my authentic sound, strengthened my writing voice, and grew more confident in the message behind my music and my books.
