We recently connected with Lynn Tran and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lynn, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
When people ask why I do what I do, my answer is simple: everything I pursue has a purpose. Once I set a goal, I commit to it fully—mapping out detailed plans, breaking things down step by step, and taking the process seriously. The bigger the goal, the more intentional and thorough my planning becomes.
To stay on track, I constantly remind myself of why I started in the first place. Even when I feel discouraged or tempted to give up, returning to that purpose keeps me moving forward. I am not someone who quits easily. Without purpose, life would feel empty and directionless; purpose is what gives life meaning and keeps us striving.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I launched my jewelry brand, Cizy Jewelry, in late 2019 when I was a senior in high school. In early 2020, after COVID hit the United States, I began selling pieces on Facebook Marketplace. During that period, I felt a lack of purpose, so I decided to use my free time to build something of my own. At first, it was just a fun project to keep myself busy since I couldn’t go out during lockdown—but after posting a few items, someone placed an order. That first sale excited me and motivated me to continue adding more products.
From 2020 to 2022, my small online business truly thrived. However, in Fall 2022, I transferred to Illinois for college and had to put the business on vacation mode until Fall 2024. When I returned, I shifted my focus from online selling to participating in in-person vendor events. My first event was in Charleston, Illinois, hosted by the entrepreneur club at my college. I didn’t hear about it until the afternoon before, and even though the deadline had passed, I decided to call the host directly. Thankfully, he answered and allowed me to join.
At the time, I was working as a student teacher for my internship, so that same afternoon I rushed to create posters for the event with the help of my students. All we managed to make were two small posters and a few printed QR codes for Venmo, PayPal, and CashApp—no tablecloths, no setup plan, nothing fancy. I went into the event with zero expectations, hoping just to make back the fee I paid for the space. To my surprise, it became one of my best sales days.
The success of that first event encouraged me to participate in more. When I returned home to New Jersey in Winter 2024, I expanded my network and started joining as many vendor events as I could. So far, I’ve attended over 20 different events, gaining valuable hands-on experience in sales, marketing, communication, patience, and resilience—far more than I ever expected.
Looking ahead, I plan to register for larger vendor events across New Jersey and Pennsylvania to continue growing my brand and reaching new customers.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My top three qualities are ambition, determination, and resilience. Whenever people talk to me about my goals—even for just a few minutes—they often comment on how ambitious I am. I’ve always known this about myself. I’m too driven to stay inside my comfort zone, and that mindset is what pushed me to pursue graduate school and make a bold shift in my career path. I’m currently working toward my master’s degree in business and a certificate in organizational leadership. While studying full time, I also work full time, hold two part-time roles, and participate in vendor events on weekends. It’s a lot to manage, but my determination keeps me moving forward.
Balancing school and multiple jobs isn’t easy. There have been many stressful moments and times when I’ve felt completely exhausted. But staying focused on my purpose and relying on my resilience is what helps me persevere.
The best advice I can offer to anyone starting their career journey is this: relax and take it one step at a time. Success doesn’t happen overnight. I remind myself of this every day because I’m still working toward where I want to be. Many people have shared the same advice with me after hearing my story. Sometimes, all you need is to pat yourself on the shoulder and say, “It’s okay—just take it easy.”

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I’ve created a few habits that help keep me from feeling overwhelmed. I work out regularly to stay healthy and keep my body in shape. On weekends, I play golf with friends for some fun and quality time—there’s something about hitting a great shot that instantly relieves stress. I even have an indoor golf setup in my basement, so whenever I’m feeling tense, I go downstairs and hit a few balls to clear my mind.
I also bought an e-bike as another way to manage stress. Sometimes I take it to the park, ride around, breathe fresh air, and enjoy nature. It’s important to have both social activities and solo activities. Your friends won’t always be available, so it’s essential to create your own stress-relief routines—plans you can enjoy on your own whenever you need them.
