Meet Erik & Adrianne

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Erik & Adrianne. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Erik & Adrianne, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
Our optimism really comes from the joy we find in creating together. When we collaborate, there’s a kind of spark. An energy that feels greater than what either of us brings individually. Erik’s years of songwriting experience and Adrianne’s background in vocal training naturally complement one another, and that balance keeps the process inspiring.

We pour our hearts into every song. Sometimes we agree, sometimes we don’t! But the shared goal is always to make the music better. Because there’s such mutual respect and care between us, every idea is safe to explore. We talk things through, experiment, and always seem to find our way to the right solution.

That sense of trust and our history of creating something we’re proud of is what keeps us endlessly optimistic.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Space Hug is the musical heartbeat of husband and wife duo Erik Newman and Adrianne Prettyman. Their songs are born out of love for each other, for creating, and for the shared magic that happens when those worlds meet. Together with a few close musical friends, they craft a lush blend of drums, synths, bass, guitar, and vocals that radiates warmth and connection.

From their studio on the Big Island of Hawaii, Erik and Adrianne write and record side by side, channeling the intimacy of their partnership into every lyric and harmony. Their music feels like classic pop touched by something deeply personal, with driving rhythms, shimmering counter melodies, and harmonies that reflect the way their voices and lives intertwine.

At its core, Space Hug is a love story told through sound, an invitation to feel what it is like when two people create not just music together but a shared emotional universe.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities that have mattered most in our musical journey are: doing what you love, putting love into what you do, and letting go of what others might think.

For us, creating together is pure joy. The process itself … writing, experimenting, and discovering new sounds side by side.

We have never been focused on fame or being rock stars. What matters most is that the music shines and feels honest. When you look back, you want to feel proud of what you created and know it came from the heart.

You will NEVER feel that satisfaction if you spend your energy trying to please everyone else. That goes way beyond the music topic too.

Focus on creating something true to you, and people will feel that authenticity in the music.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
The biggest challenge we face right now is finding ways to be heard in such a crowded musical landscape. With so much content available and the traditional record deals and CD sales of the past no longer driving the industry, it can be difficult for independent artists to reach new listeners or generate income from their art.

We are focused on growing our audience in authentic ways, but it often feels like the system is set up for artists to pay just to be seen. We keep creating, sharing, and staying positive, but having a sponsor or a partner who believes in what we are doing would make a world of difference in helping Space Hug reach more hearts and ears.
