Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Del Kary of Yakima

We recently had the chance to connect with Del Kary and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Del, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is working on a movie project; either editing a film, directing a film, or writing a new screenplay for an upcoming project.
All three take up a good deal of my time each and every day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m an independent film maker from Washington, State.
My last movie, ‘Cheater, Cheater’, was released in early 2025 and is currently streaming on Prime Video and Tubi.
Two more movies that I produced, ‘Longshot Danny’ and ‘Incipient’, will be released in 2026 and I will be directing my next feature in June of 2026, titled ‘Psycosis’.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. They shaped who I am today by always instilling a work hard/play hard attitude. That nothing comes easy, and to work hard and have determination to reach your goal.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. I had to put my film making career on hold to take care of my mother who developed dementia. It was a 10 year gap, and didn’t see myself trying to get back into the game of movie making.
But the passion for film making and storytelling took hold once again, and I started my career back up in 2020.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Trust, love, compassion, friendship, humor… and movies, hahaha.
All of my friends know I am all about films and making movies. And they are my biggest supporters.
And that matters above anything else!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely what I was born to do. Since I can remember, movies have played a huge part in my life. And getting to do it now, telling my stories, directing my vision… is exactly where I’m supposed to be… doing what I love.
