We’re looking forward to introducing you to Brandon Elliott. Check out our conversation below.
Brandon, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
What’s more important between intelligence, energy or integrity?
I think integrity is most important of these three. It is what brings respect, trust and sustains relationships knowing one’s value system.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Brandon Elliott, from the Washington DC area but lived in ATL, Memphis and Bay Area. I am one of six and I enjoy being out in nature, sports & road trips.
On my free time away from work, I have created a platform that showcases & highlight the diversity of Black owned storefronts, museums, safe spaces & community centers.
In doing so, I’ve been to over 300 of these around the country.
In the time of mass boycotts and intentionality with spending, this platforms is unique and a special alternative for those looking to circulate their dollar within their community. Almost all black owned storefronts and local & small businesses.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
The people who taught me most about work would be my grandmother and her late husband who I called Pop.
.
I say Pop mostly because he was a hands-on teacher and the importance of building things with your hands and your creativity.
My grandmother via her dedication to her job for over 40 years. And how it’s paid off greatly for her in retirement.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
One kind thing I would say to my younger self would be to “have grace”. Sometimes being hard on yourself can create more issues than not. However having grace can heal, create patience, better understanding for things you would be hard on yourself about.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
One person I truly admire because of their character would be Jason Wilson who is a youth advocate, author, mental health advocate, worrier, leader father, husband and a man of morale. He embodies what I think a well rounded man is.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I have never been one to put too much value in money or material things. I overstand those things are tools for life, and the society we live in.
With that said, I will always give my best no matter if there’s a rewards at the end or not. I do not needed praises, I rather take respect from those who sees the effort.
Praising people can sometimes take away their hunger & passion.
