We recently had the chance to connect with Yasmeen Le and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Yasmeen, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Something I’m proud of right now is taking care of my mental health. Within the most recent years I was diagnosed with OCD and had no idea this was affecting my life. I had struggled tremendously. It wasn’t until my therapist mentioned it to me that it made sense. It’s not the kind where everything needs to be spotless or I need to click my light switch but one where I ruminate on intrusive thoughts, question my morals, feel attacked on my beliefs and more. Through Jesus, therapy, and medicine, I have found so much healing. Yes I still struggle and have tough days but now these tough days don’t ruin my life. Instead, they’re days where I pause, I allow myself to acknowledge but I stand on the truth of the gospel. I’m proud that I get to do this. I’m thankful this came to light. It’s so hard, but it’s so beautiful that our minds can actually make a new path to new ways of thinking.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Yasmeen Le! I recently got married… and I mean recently! Just less than a month ago. I’m a full time wedding planner and work full time in the corporate world too. Building my brand has been one of the sweetest gifts in the world. It is one of intentionality, grace, elegance, and thoughtfulness. Marriage is such a beautiful thing and getting to guide couples into this new season to ease stress but truly bring their vision to life is the best job I could ask for. Wedding planning isn’t much of a job for me but a place for connection and creativeness. I have met some amazing people who have this drive to pursue purpose and it’s been one that drives me. I have met the kindest couples, vendors and they have become friends. Grace & Elegance is not driven by gaining thousands, rather it’s driven by meeting real people with real stories and real meaning.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My husband has seen me in so many different seasons. Though we just got married, life before marriage was not linear. I struggled tremendously with ROCD (relationship OCD) and had these awful compulsions to find relief. Every single time I presented some form of feeling triggered, he’d remind me to let it pass and to remind myself the truth. Today, I still struggle with those but he helped me see myself with so much grace and compassion. I was so quick to speak hurtful words to myself, to beat myself up and yet he reminded me of who God says I am.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me so much grace. When you’re in the middle of a storm it’s so essential for us to want to get out of it as soon as we can. But sometimes, we can’t. Sometimes we have to stay within it and allow it to pass. Suffering brings refining. Refining purifies us. It’s breaks down the old, the ugly, and reveals the most important within ourselves and those closest to us. It reveals the things that really matter. Suffering is not easy but essential. It’s a process to grieve what was, to walk into what is, and to trust what will be. I truly can’t say that I did this on my own. I couldn’t. I needed God and continuously do as the seasons go on. There’s a misconception that he makes it go away but he doesn’t. He allows them to come, not to break you, but because this world has free will. But what he will do? Is always be with you
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think one of the largest lies is that you have to make it to the luxury, high end portion of the spectrum. One thing I’ve learned is that yes it is so beautiful and lavish, but that it’s also real people. The world we live in can be money driven and so easily pulled from the reality that we are real people with real budgets and real struggles. You don’t need to strive. You can be where you are, pursue more but don’t hurt yourself getting somewhere that will not fill the void.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Absolutely! Everything this world has to offer. Money, People, My Business, and so much more. I learned that I was formed with a void that no one or thing could fill. I learned that my husband is a safe person and my person but he can’t fix me or make me whole. I learned that money can buy things but not fix. I speak of Jesus a lot because he is everything for me. He fills that void for me daily. I know that when it’s time, I’ll take nothing with me. I know that the true things that do are the things he teaches the importance of
