Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Catrell Lawayne

Catrell Lawayne shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Catrell , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
To be clear, I’m not chasing anything. I don’t subscribe to those words. I only attract. I did, in fact, stop chasing: dreams, people, and material things. Now, I simply align my energy and intentions to what it is I want to show up in my timeline.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Is this a redo? I’ve answered this question in my first interview with Voyage LA Magazine.
Just joking! I’m aware this is for anyone learning of me for the first time.

Hi, readers! My name is Catrell Lawayne. I wish I could say “you might know me from.. “, but the world isn’t privy to me, yet. Haha! Funny, but true. One step at a time, right?

Well, I act on stage and in films, I compose poetry books, and I host Tuesday Talks with Catrell Lawayne. I began as a model after high school, which opened doors for my other talents. I released my second poetry book this year titled Hard Pink Soft Black. Joyfully, I am comping its sequel (which I will not reveal the title, yet). The title and the content is so deep!

I am a young, Black boy from the south who dreamt a bigger dream than living in Louisiana as a 9-5 guy. I’ve always wanted to use my talents to create a better life for my myself and my family. My mother deserves the home of her dreams. She’s always giving to others and taking people in. I want to give back to her in a way that blows her mind. Also, I want to start a family — two kids. They, too, deserve to live a full, beautiful life.
So, here I am doing what I love so I am able to buy a lovely home in the great state of California for my family and I.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I think my first inkling of feeling powerful, that I can recall, is when I won the math bee in 3rd grade. First, I won in my class. Then, I won against all the other 3rd grade class winners.. I had to compete against each 3rd grade winner in my parish/county on a big stage — I won that, too. I recall feeling mentally powerful walking the halls of my elementary school.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Oh, man. When I was sad and scared as a child, I would do one of or all three of the following things: grab a pen and notebook, put on a Tyler Perry play (which inspired me), or listen to a host of my favorite songs.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Lavish parties. Pretty people. Poetry and money. Duh!

No, seriously. Haha. I think my closest friends would say good energy, clothes, a big check, a really good time with my family and friends, and my poetry means a lot to me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Frankly, it would provoke me even more to be my very best. I’m a Virgo, baby. That would fuel me. You would notice me in some way or another.
