We’re looking forward to introducing you to LaJune Singleton. Check out our conversation below.
Hi LaJune, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Who are you learning from right now?
I am learning from myself and God right now. I am learning to truly trust God in my growth and journey in life. I’m learning from my experiences, disappointments, loss, stillness, pain, silence, and growth. The lessons of enjoying life without any excuses because you never know when it’s your time. I can also say I have learned from my cousin Lynn who died on Mother’s Day who lost her battle with cancer. She would always say it’s God’s will and God is still in control, which is true. God will only bless us when he knows we are ready. Her fight to live encouraged me to appreciate my life no matter what it looks like and to walk in gratitude and faith.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am an actress, model, speaker, writer, certified trauma-informed coach, Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, certified nutrition and healthy living coach, certified life coach, author of “Releasing My Trauma: The Root of Self-Sabotage”, podcaster of Mind, Health, & Wellness with LaJune, CEO & Founder of LaJune Singleton, LLC Move towards Healing works with women over 30, girls, families, and athletes in the areas of trauma, chronic illness, nutrition, health, wellness, behavioral issues, strengthening and conditioning.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with my dad shaped me into how I see myself. My dad was deaf, but it never stopped him from living and enjoying his life. He never used it as an excuse he was a fisherman, a log-man, and he loved to travel. When those negative thoughts or fears come, I remember my dad and how fearless he was. He never allowed the world to define him by his limitations. This has shaped me to do things no matter how it looks if I wait for perfection, it will never happen.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The most defining wounds of your life were hitting rock bottom. Hitting rock bottom I was facing homelessness, car was repossessed, business declined, suicidal/depressed, financially broke, and lost family/friends. There were days I went without food. Even during my darkest moments, I had amazing support and strangers that showed up for me. My friends would ask if I had food out of the blue, I would say to myself how do they know I don’t have food. I had to let go and heal from the people who disappointed and hurt me to learn how to ask for help. The lesson of letting go, those things and people were seasonal, gratitude for not having to spend one night on the street, phone, transportation, and storage unit was always covered. Overall, gratitude and appreciation for life and preparation for the next chapter whatever that may look like.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of myself is the real me. I am not interested in being anyone else but myself or trying to impress others. I know, like, and love who I am. I do not have to pretend to be anyone other than myself. I get paid to become other people when I act. Lol
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I give my best because that’s who I am. I’ve never moved through life needing approval or applause. What matters to me is simple: Does it make me happy? Does it light me up? Does it help someone? Do I actually enjoy doing it? If the answer is yes, I’m in. Doing things just to get praise has never felt authentic to me. That’s not purpose. That’s performing.
