Kayla Warren shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kayla, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes look like me waking up and then getting my daughter from her room, she is 15 months old so we spend the mornings hanging out, eating breakfast and playing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Yes! I am Kayla, I am the owner of Skinventure. I became a licensed esthetician about 8 years ago and decided to start my own esthetics business about 2 years ago. I treat all skin, and I specialize in treating acne. Treating acne is what I am passionate about since my acne is the reason I got into this industry. I wanted to build my brand identity around earth tones since Skinventure is all about the adventure and the journey of life and our skin. I wanted it be cozy and peaceful for my clients, and I am proud I have accomplished that.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
I have not seen myself as powerful many times in my life, mostly because I struggle with believing in myself and that comes with not feeling powerful. The most powerful moment in my life was giving birth to my daughter. Now when I struggle with anything or doubt myself, I tell myself “this is nothing, I have given birth and I can do anything now.”
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of failure. There has been many times in my life, personal and business, that I stopped myself because I have been afraid to fail. I constantly am working on that and pushing my limits and my comfort zone. It is really hard for me, but I have been trying to do more things I wouldn’t typically do, business-wise. I would rather try every thing once and if it isn’t what works. move on and try something new.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My husband, he is my sounding board. Any crazy late night idea I have, I tell him and get his feedback. He bounces ideas back and forth with me, even if it is 2am and I just can’t turn my brain off. Should I do this, should I do that? He’s the best.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I’d say acne. Many people online think they are skin influencers and can recommend products to people, or give advice that will actually hurt them in the long run. There is a reason estheticians are the professionals who went to school and are educated to treat people properly!
