We’re looking forward to introducing you to Karenina Fabrizzi. Check out our conversation below.
Karenina, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been finding immense joy in scuba diving lately.
When I immerse myself underwater, it feels as though time stops.
Being in this otherworldly environment, completely surrounded by vibrant creatures, colors, and a sense of wonder, while floating weightlessly, brings me a deep sense of peace and happiness
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Karenina Fabrizzi, an Italian artist based in Barcelona, Spain.
My work has been exhibited all over the world and is part of many private collections internationally, including PULSE Miami, Art on Paper New York, Hermitage Hotel, Cheval Gloucester Park, DAWN-Royal Grand Suites, Le Meridien, Leevan Art Oriental, and Maison et Objet in Paris, to name a few.
I am fascinated by nature, the behavior of animals, the way flowers and plants grow, and how we are all part of this intricate web of life. I love to explore the subtle injection of ambiguity that blurs the line between the ordinary and the fantastic.
Through my work, I aim to bring nature closer to the observer and help people reconnect with their roots and memories. Organic elements play a central role, showing—almost like in a fairy tale—the link between the subconscious mind and the real world. While my work may have an apparent dark side, it also conveys fragility and vulnerability, qualities that I find deeply compelling.
I work with delicate graphite lines, a subtle oil color palette, ink, and rice paper, building layer upon layer to create a particularly dreamy atmosphere that I hope draws the viewer into my vision.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was very insecure and believed that my dreams were almost impossible to achieve. Yet, I was persistent, and the idea of not pursuing my path as an artist felt unbearable. Over time, I faced my doubts and fears, and now I no longer believe that my dreams are out of reach. Today, I am completely confident in myself and my path.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve definitely had moments where I almost gave up. Being an artist is hard—not just because of the financial challenges, but because it constantly requires digging deep within ourselves. For me, it’s profound soul-searching: asking what my purpose is, what I need to express, and confronting the truth of my inner self. It’s like an X-ray of my emotions, and exposing them so openly is never a simple task
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely. The public version of me is the real me. It would feel hypocritical to share my message through my paintings, my texts, and everything I express if I were presenting something different from who I truly am. I am a bit reserved, and I choose carefully how and with whom I spend my time. But with the people I share my world with, what you see is genuinely who I am
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that I encouraged others to face their fears and emotions with bravery, and to pursue what they truly love, no matter the obstacles. Through my paintings, I want others to see that my own journey wasn’t easy—that it took strength to overcome my fears and grow beyond a difficult beginning and a complicated family. But I also believe those challenges shaped me for the better. If there’s a story I hope people tell about me, it’s that I used my work and my life to inspire others to follow their passions and to become stronger through their struggles
