We recently had the chance to connect with Dallas Denoo and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Dallas, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 minutes of my day is spent on time for me and getting my mind set to tackle my To Do list. I love to sit with a cup of coffee, and I look through Instagram to admire and love on all the amazing artists that I follow. I take a few moments to do a Wordle puzzle to get my mind going and then sit back and reflect on my upcoming day. Taking this time in the morning is so important because I feel many of us who are self-employed forget to take care of ourselves.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dallas and I am the owner of Dallas Renee Photography. The main part of my business is working with high school seniors and capturing their dream senior photos. I also do branding photography which I have really come to love. Although I do not accept any new family clients, I do work with a few families that have come back to me year after year.
I feel my client work is unique because I really get to know my clients before their sessions. We meet for a one hour consultation before their session to discuss locations, outfits, ideas and their dreams. I help them before, during and after their sessions so they can enjoy this time of their lives with no stress.
On the fine art side, I am a macro photographer. I shoot mainly with Lensbaby lenses and am a Lensbaby Trailblazer. I have done webinars on fine art and had my first gallery showing this summer.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say my husband. Artists tend to go through time of imposter syndrome or doubting if they have that ‘It” factor and my husband has never doubted me. He has always supported my dreams and ideas and is a great sounding board when I need to talk to somebody about issues or frustrations.
Every time I think I am ready to give up or start questioning my talent, he is there to lift me up.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Go for your dreams. Don’t do what everybody expects you to do.
I didn’t know for years what I truly wanted to do, but I knew what I was doing was not making me happy. It wasn’t until I realized that photography was my passion and I listened to MYSELF that I started to love my job.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Likes and followers on social media is equal to talent.
Too many people believe that if they have more likes or a lot of followers, they are the best of what they do. I know so many incredibly talented people who have minimal followers and likes on their feeds. They just care about their art, their clients and being happy. That is what truly matters.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people tell others that I cared. I cared about everyone in my life and people I may have never met. If you are a person who is kind to all living things, you are worth me caring about.
