Story & Lesson Highlights with Zelda Morning Star of Flagstaff, AZ

Zelda Morning Star shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Zelda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Something I believe is often misunderstood about my business is my spiritual focus. When people first discover my tattoo studio the art is usually the main focus, however the energy behind my tattooing process is just as equally important to me as is the design process and execution.

My spiritually saved my life when I was 19, and it has been the dominant force in my life the last ten years to heal and find my way back home to myself. I feel I have a purpose in this life to help others do the same- finding one’s authentic self through art, self love, and spirituality. I can only hope to make even the smallest impact on others if it can help them rekindle the flame inside that I discovered all those years ago.

I believe we take on the energy of our tattoos, and that tattooing is a transmutive process that can genuinely shift the energies in our vessel.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Zelda Morning Star and I’m the artist and owner of Corpsey Studio. Corpsey Studio is a private, spiritually focused, tattoo studio located downtown Flagstaff, AZ.

I’m a multi-faceted tattoo artist with a focus on spirituality. I believe that we take on the energy of our tattoos and that intention is very important when it comes to tattooing. At my private studio I offer energy tattoos, energy readings, custom painted shoes and more. My goal is to help others heal by finding their power in their authenticity while learning to love the self unconditionally.

I have been on my spiritual journey for the last ten years and have been offering energetic readings and shoes for my clients for the past seven years. Two years ago I began the adventure of opening up my own tattoo studio where I have now shifted my focus to providing energetic tattoos for my clients. Below is a more detailed understanding of my Energetic Transmissional Tattoos and how they work.

Energetic transmissional tattoos are tattoos that are designed and tattooed with a specific intention to transmit a specific energy to each individual. To do this, I use my clairvoyant and clairtangent abilities to channel my client’s higher self to create the specific energetic design that would work best for them to obtain whatever type of energy they are wanting. As I tattoo this energetic design onto my clients, I hold the intention of whatever healing energy they are wanting to achieve and use my clairtangency to charge their tattoo with that frequency. Clairvoyance is the ability to download spiritual visions in your third eye, which is how I am able to download these energetic designs from my client’s higher self. Clairtangency is the ability to charge objects/things with specific energetic intention, which is how I am able to incorporate magic into these tattoos.

All of my Energetic Tansmissional Tattoo sessions include Palo Santo cleansing to the studio before my client’s arrival to ensure the removal of negative energy and to invite only positive energies within the studio space. After my client has arrived to their appointment and have filled out paperwork, we will do a short meditation to help ground their energy and prepare them for their new energetic tattoo. Once we have stenciled on their design and they give me the go ahead, we will begin the tattoo process. After the tattoo is finished, we will end your appointment with another small meditation before you depart the studio.

Energetic transmissional tattoos can be customized in two different ways. For example, let’s say you are wanting a tattoo for courage. I can either directly channel your higher self for this energetic tattoo and draw your design to the specificity your higher self wants (these designs usually have more of a sigil/sacred geometry look to them), or if you wanted the energy of courage but specifically in the design of an eagle, then I could absolutely draw up a design of an eagle and then intertwine the energy of courage into the image as well. The possibilities to these designs are truly endless.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was a young child I had the pleasure of being given a disposable Kodak camera around the age of five. I can still remember the joy I felt running around the backyard capturing stills of the beauty my eyes saw so effortlessly. I knew I was an artist from a very young age, that was something I never questioned. I felt connected to the world in a very intimate way. I found this hard to express in my younger years which led me to finding ways to express myself through art. Photography was one of the first art forms I found where I could take an emotion I felt within and then create an image to try to show others. I truly believe art is a form of transmuting one energy into another energy. Transmutation is art, and so is magic.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Pain is an incredible teacher. Being a highly sensitive individual I am no stranger to the spectrum of human emotion, especially the darker aspects. Pain has taught me lessons I am incredibly grateful for. I think it’s very important to experience humility in this life, and our wounds are our greatest teachers. Through my suffering I have learned what true happiness is. In suffering I have learned what it means to truly love the self, and not be reliant on outside forces for happiness. It may sound cliche, but it is true when they say you have to make sure your cup is filled before you can fill anyone else’s. We will never be happy if we cannot be fulfilled on our own first.

I struggled with a great deal of loss in my early years that resulted in an unhealthy amount of negative self talk and harm towards myself. This led me to some very dark depressive years that ultimately led me to what is called, “the dark night of the soul,” in spiritually. It is when I experienced my darkest night that I simultaneously experienced the brightest light I had ever felt. It was in darkness that I finally found my light. This experience was by far the most difficult I have ever endured, but it is also how I found my strength and readiness to start again.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I try to make it a point to express my authentic self in my public persona, though I do feel like I still mask my sensitivity sometimes. This is something I am really trying to work on- to not hide my sensitive nature and let it flow through me unapologetically.

When I was first getting into the tattoo industry in 2016 I was told there wasn’t a place for my sensitivity and that I needed to grow thicker skin. There was definitely some truth to this, and I am grateful for what I learned during my apprenticeship however it did cause me to mask a great deal of my sensitive nature from the world. I have been slowly peeling back these layers over the years and coming back to my fully sensitive self. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to open my own private tattoo studio. I wanted to not only have the freedom to express myself, but also give comfort to my clients who may feel similarly. I wanted to be the soft, nurturing, feminine energy I felt was lacking when I first got into the industry.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most at peace when I am in the middle of creation. I think that art is a type of meditation. There’s a state of energy an artist taps into during the act of creation, where we are connected to the frequency of what wants to come through our essence and be birthed into this reality. This is why I believe art is intertwined with spirituality. To me, creating art feels the same way it does when connecting to angelic frequencies. I believe as artists “we” aren’t the ones who actually come up with ideas. I believe art is channeled directly from a divine source, and it’s up to us to deliver it to this world.
