Kenneth ‘KC’ Williams Jr. shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kenneth ‘KC’, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I would hire me. I bring a blend of professionalism, creativity, and emotional intelligence that allows me to adapt to any environment and deliver results. I’m dependable, detail-oriented, and known for maintaining high standards in everything I do. Beyond my skills, I take pride in uplifting those around me and bringing a sense of calm, order, and excellence to every project or team I’m part of.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kenneth C. Williams, Jr., but most people know me as KC. I’ve spent over two decades working across the fashion, music, and design industries, blending creativity with strategy to build brands and experiences that leave lasting impressions. I’m an executive business office assistant, creative consultant, and wardrobe stylist who’s had the privilege of collaborating with award-winning talent and visionary brands.
What makes my story unique is the versatility and intention behind everything I do. Whether I’m styling a client, curating an interior space, or shaping brand direction, my goal is always to bring authenticity, elegance, and a sense of connection to the forefront.
Right now, I’m continuing to expand my work in fashion and business development while also focusing on meaningful projects—one in particular centered around supporting individuals diagnosed with autism. Every chapter of my journey has been about purpose, creativity, and using my experiences to inspire others to embrace who they truly are.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My longtime friend and client, Dr. Earl Bynum, Jr., saw me clearly before I even saw myself. He was the first to give me a real opportunity—asking me to assist on a project that started as a simple test to gauge my work ethic. Because of his belief in me and my execution, that one chance evolved into an 18+ year friendship and working relationship.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of managing his music and radio career, his record label, school of music, and several multi-award-winning projects. Dr. Bynum believed in a young man still in high school, and his “yes” opened doors I couldn’t have imagined. What began as an opportunity grew into a genuine bond built on trust, respect, and gratitude—one that I’ll cherish for life.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Some of the deepest wounds in my life came from the quiet, unseen moments—the ones where I was doing everything I could to make others proud while silently fading in the background. Growing up with parents who were deeply rooted in ministry, I carried an internal, unspoken expectation to always be the example, the one who had it all together. I wanted to make them proud, to please everyone—my family, my friends, even the people who didn’t truly see me. I longed for a tighter bond with my siblings, the kind of closeness I saw others have. And when I sought authentic love from a spouse, I found myself trying to build something that wasn’t meant for me. I wanted the perfect life, the perfect family, and poured myself into that vision, only to be met with disappointment—and in the process, I began to feel bitterness creeping in. It was in those moments I realized I had spent so much of my life performing for acceptance, I had neglected the most important relationship of all: the one with myself.
The healing began when I stopped searching for approval and started listening to my own heart. Music became my sanctuary—every lyric, every note gave me language for the pain I couldn’t express. Fashion became my expression—through style, I found the courage to redefine myself and my story. I leaned on the support of close friends, including world-renowned dancer Shawn Cowherd of Krash Krew, who reminded me to stay grounded and celebrate my worth beyond the expectations of others. I began journaling, setting healthy boundaries, and surrounding myself with people who genuinely had my best interest at heart. I also carry the wisdom my Godfather, Dr. Gil Duncan, IV, shared with me on December 25, 2012, at 12:43 p.m.: “You have been validated already, no need to seek validation. People have been raised up to defend you, your interests. People will come into your life who have your best interest, who are instrumental in your life, ones who have insight like the three wise men. He will send people or angels to redirect you just as an angel led the three wise men to Jesus. You’ve been vindicated and validated, your turn is coming.” That truth has anchored me in patience, perspective, and faith.
Now, I live with a sense of freedom and gratitude I once only dreamed of. My story isn’t about perfection; it’s about reclamation—of voice, purpose, and self-worth. Healing has taught me that peace doesn’t come from being everything to everyone—it comes from finally being enough for yourself. And in that journey, I’ve learned that the most powerful love you’ll ever experience is the one you give yourself.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
One project I am fully committed to, no matter how long it takes, is a passion project I’ve been nurturing for nearly 15 years. It stems from my deep desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals diagnosed with autism. My journey began teaching first grade in my hometown of Carmel/Indianapolis, IN, where I developed a genuine heart for helping these incredible individuals. Over time, I continued cultivating this vision, learning and growing along the way.
This project is about more than creating opportunities—it’s about understanding, connection, and empowerment. Now based in Highland Park, TX, I remain dedicated to bringing it to fruition. I am confident that with patience, dedication, and love, this vision will succeed.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, I’ve experienced getting everything I thought I wanted—being flown across the world expense-free, owning Birkins, enjoying shopping sprees, being “known,” and sitting backstage at major concerts. At the time, it all seemed like the definition of success. But eventually, I realized none of it truly satisfied me. All of those moments, as glamorous as they appeared, came at a cost—and that cost had nothing to do with my legacy or my destiny.
Now, having lived and learned through experience, I no longer chase things that fade when the spotlight dims. If I were to lose my name, possessions, or likeness tomorrow, I want to know that my peace and purpose would still remain intact. Inner peace has become my true measure of success. From that foundation, I’m focused on building a legacy that my niece, nephew, and godchildren can be proud of—and perhaps one day continue long after I’m gone.
