We were lucky to catch up with Abigail Emery recently and have shared our conversation below.
Abigail, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I found my confidence and self-esteem through a mix of professional growth and personal grit. As a female chiropractor practicing for nearly a decade I’ve had to learn—sometimes the hard way—how to trust my skills, my judgment, and my ability to make a real difference for families in our community. Every year brought new challenges, and with each one I became a little more grounded in who I am as a doctor and as a woman in business. But honestly, a big part of my confidence didn’t come from the clinic at all—it came from distance running. I’ve completed five races this year alone, and pushing myself mile after mile has taught me that I’m capable of far more than I ever gave myself credit for. There’s something transformative about training your mind and body to keep going when people doubt you, you don’t feel well, or things just don’t go as planned. Crossing each finish line gave me proof that I can endure discomfort, doubt, and setbacks—and still come out stronger. Running showed me resilience. Owning my practice taught me leadership. Together, they built my confidence from the inside out.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
At our core, we offer chiropractic care including full spine and extremity adjustments to reduce nervous system interference, improve posture, mobility, and overall body function. We specialize in chiropractic care for pregnant women and practice the Webster Technique to support pelvic alignment, reduce pregnancy-related discomfort, and improve pelvic balance during pregnancy. We offer gentle pediatric chiropractic for babies and we often see newborns the day after birth. On the acupuncture side, we practice acupuncture and dry needling for holistic pain-management, stress relief, and hormone balance. We also offer Mercier Therapy, a deep visceral manipulation aimed at improving pelvic pain, pelvic organ mobility, postpartum recovery, digestive issues related to pelvic dysfunction and supporting a woman’s fertility journey. What our patients love about Bloom Well Family Wellness is convenience and flexibility. You can book online, contact your doctor directly via our secure messaging app, and even bring children to appointments — making it easier for busy families to maintain their health and well-being. We don’t subscribe to long, drawn-out treatment plans, giving patients the flexibility to book appointments when they need us. We offer memberships and packages, which give patients incredible prices on the services they use to stay well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three keys to my success have been developing my listening skills, trusting myself and true grit. The fun part about being a chiropractor is that everybody has a story to tell and I get to learn a lot about my patients. I love meeting new people and listening to their stories. I’m in a unique position in that patients feel comfortable sharing their stories with me and I provide the space they need to explain as much or as little as they desire. On the surface, I’m a very kind, easy-going woman but people who know me recognize that my success has not been without struggle. Over the years I’ve learned that you tell people how to treat you by the way you communicate and how you feel about yourself. Learning to trust myself was the biggest key to building my self-confidence and developing my ability to communicate effectively. I take pride in being able to serve my community to the best of my ability. I can think of a few times this year when I was not feeling well but I showed up to see patients anyway. I’m sure someone else in my position would have stayed home to rest or left the office to get medical treatment sooner for the non-contagious illnesses I battled on my own. I don’t let anything slow me down. That grit fuels me to keep growing both personally and professionally.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The biggest challenge I’m currently facing is that my schedule is almost full. My first opening for a new patient is about a week out. I have a waitlist of new and current patients that are hoping to be seen quickly. This is a challenge because patients need to be seen immediately when they are in pain or have a problem that they need me to address. I implemented a cancellation policy and I take a deposit for a new patient appointment at the time of booking. While this has helped ensure that patients who are on the schedule are being seen, I still don’t have enough openings for everyone who needs an appointment. I’ve been weighing the decision to expand my team for almost a year now. I’m excited and a little bit nervous to take that jump, but the timing feels right. I’m planning to expand my team – adding support staff then a chiropractor within the next few months.
